Well, I would do irony if there was any irony in a Diabetic eating sugar. There isn’t. Otherwise we wouldn’t be able to eat ANY carbohydrates, because all carbohydrates are sugar. ALL carbohydrates to excess are bad, not just candy.
True Liz. I was think about this recently too. How afraid I was to eat anything with sugar in it when I was dx’d.
Well, honestly there isn’t much difference (although straight sugar carbs are not as healthy for one as vegetable carbs). Carbs are carbs. I eat alots of things that have more carbs than my 6 carb sucker that I allow myself to enjoy. The only difference is that the sucker has no nutritional value. At least, my veggies have some vitamins and minerals in them.
I’m gonna run to your house, and steal your bag of suckers!!! Muahahahahahahaha! lol
I think taking some natural PB and putting it into some 85% dark chocolate cups would work best. its about 6 carbs and healthier than the other crap.
Ive really been giving this some thought too. I know the neighbor kids are going to come by and I cant in good faith hand them something I know is rubbish. Then again, as a kid if it wasnt store bought, I wasnt allowed to eat it as poison candy was the myth at the time. But making something healthy like PB cookies I think beats sugar alcohols or random guesses at packaged candy any day.
You like my peanut butter cups recipe, eh?
Didnt know there was one!
I was just going to melt some 85% or some bakers and put them in mini cupcake papers with PB in the center, but if youve got a recipe, pass it over! =^)
LOL!
Great! Take some! There is no way I will eat all these - it will take me a year!
We use 3 tablespoons of butter, and no cool whip at all now… and it still turns out pretty good. We just modified it a bit.
What about some natural candy?
The suckers I have are all natural - sweetened with fruit juice. Sure they do have some sugar in them. But you can get some healthier chocolate too. If you have a health foods store, they will have some. Whole Foods is great for that stuff (even if a tad expensive).
The only bad thing about making stuff at home and passing it out to kids is that parents will get all paranoid (my mom threw all the apples out in our bags) and they might toss it.
Which is crazy because the store bought stuff could be contaminated too - look that recent PB scare.
Yeah this is just what I was saying, there was way to much hype in the 80s about needles and crap in candy bowls or LSD dipped home made candies. Its all a bad joke.
Thanks! In my normal style Ill have to play a bit. I wonder if adding some cream to the bakers chocolate will keep the consistency needed for these. What is this Almond Bark stuff?
It’s confectioner’s chocolate, made out of vegetable fats, instead of cocoa fats. It’s sooooo sweet, that I don’t have to worry about adding any artificial sweetener, or real sugar, in any way… the carb count distributes nicely among all the cups.
