Exercising and basal rates. Suggestions?

I’ve started jogging, in hopes of completing a 5k by the fall. I have improving cardio endurance, but I’m stuck trying to figure out how best to adjust my basal rate, and how to time eating.
I’m also wondering what people do for sugar while they are running. I’ve started bringing G2 with me, but it’s a pain.
Additional info, I’m a type 1.5 with a basal rate of only 0.3 units per hour. I use the ok iPod and Dexcom.

By the way…Auto correct made ‘Omnipod’ into ‘ok iPod’

What happens when you run? Does your blood sugar elevate or drop? If it drops you may want to drop your basal rate about 2 hours before you run.
Good luck with your training… You can do it. It is a great feeling to complete a 5 k.

With that small of a basal rate… The usual trick of a 50% basal an hour before and through the workout is close to useless…

The problem. You need some IOB… and I dont think the pod will let you drop that low of a basal to half…I wonder if you can set your temp basal to 0 for 3 hours, and give half your usual basal up front… The advantage of the 0 temp basal is that it will alarm when its over… and will resume the normal pump basal rate…but by giving the insulin up front, you will have some IOB

I use the Amphipod belt to lug stuff. I take Jelly Beans and have been through a few diffferent iterations of various densities of Gatorade. I buy the powdered stuff b/c 1) it’s waaay cheaper, like 2 gallons for $4.00 or so and 2) I can put exactly how many carbs I want in there. If your BG is crashing, you can make it stronger. I do a %age for longer runs but I’ve been running about 3 years, maybe try 60-80% or so to see how it goes? If it takes 1/2 hour, maybe try 8-10G of carbs beforehand and see if you can run it off. The books (TLAP and Pumping Insulin) recommend a lot more carbs. I was about 220 when I started running and am about 180 now and I don’t think that you need 70-90G of carbs to run 3 miles. That could just be.
