Express scripts recently put out a list of meds and supplies thatThey will no longer cover as of January 2014. On that list is freestyle test strips. They want you to use one touch which of course won’t work in the omnipod controller/meter. I tried to post a link but it won’t let me citing privacy reasons. I was told by express scripts to get an exception form from blue cross and blue cross said get a letter from the doctor. This is going to cause a big hardship. What do you all think?
That happened to me when my insurance changed and it wasn't a big deal at all. I had my doctor fill out my insurance's form saying that my insulin pump used the Freestyle test strips and I got a letter within the week from my insurance company saying they'll be covered. (I have to get that exception form filled out each year.) Worth the minimal hassle for me!
Just add it to the stack of paperwork. Sigh. Good to know though you can still get them though.
We had to do this also when the military insurance we have changed the Freestyle into the "preferred" category (which means it's basically not covered) But once we filed for an exception we haven't had any problems.
Does your insurance company offer a 3rd party company for medical supplies (CCS, Edgepark, etc? A lot of people get pump supplies, CGM supplies and testing supplies from these mail order medical supply companies. Maybe that is an option to avoid Express Scripts. We too have Express Scripts for medication (including insulin) but we go through CCS Medical for all of our other supplies.
My ins company changed me to Sterling Medical for my testing supplies…(from Edgepark, and Byram)
