Feedback on Tandem infusion set choices

OTOH, I heartily wish it were possible to use Medtronic Advance sets with my Tandem pump. Having made the switch a couple months ago, I like just about everything about the Tandem pump better, but the insets were the one major checkmark in the “against” column when I was making my decision. They’re essentially the same as the older Medtronic Mio’s, over which the Advance ones were a significant improvement. Theoretically

FWIW, Tandem promise they have a new inset coming out that looks like a significant improvement over their current one as well as the Advances, but no word yet when that’s going to happen.

@DrBB , I think I know what you mean about the old Mio. I didn’t care for it. I’m pretty flexible though. Right now, I’m looking at cost. I’m even opening up to the idea of Omnipod, because then I can avoid the costs and trouble with reservoirs and infusion sets.

You can switch up between tandem and Medtronic as far as the sets go. They have the exact same clip. The issue is the tubing, that’s where they differ.

When I switched from silhouette to varisoft, I used all the silhouette infusion sets with my tandem tubing and it worked fine. It gave me some extra infusion sets for when they fail or pull out etc.

It’s not a workable solution for the long run because you will run out of tubing

Really? I tried it early on but the clips didn’t seem to match. Maybe that’s an autosoft 90 vs XC thing? I use the 90s but am trying out XC on my next order.

Yea I don’t know the answer to that. I only ever used the varisoft.

You can’t clip an XC set to a 90 tube or vice versa. At least in my limited experience. They look very similar but not quite the same.

I don’t know if this video has accurate info (I only have Tandem sets, not Medtronic so I can’t check), but it might answer your compatibility question.
