Fill tubing, during cartridge change

I have been using the T-Slim for apr. 6-7 months, I'm from SE Michigan and I'm an avid Motorcyclist during the summer months I'm in some cases spending 10-14 hours in the outside heat (80'-95'). So we all know that sometimes the insulin (Humalog) will lose its potency if it gets hot. So in these cases I only put about a 24-36 hour amount of insulin in the cartridge and I do not change the tubing everytime but in all cases when you change the cartridge. You have to minimally prime 10 units of insulin thru the tubing. I waste so much of the insulin this way, does anyone know how to bypass this step. Tandem replied that you have to when changing the cartridge. Please help. Johnnie B

Hi Johnnie -- do you mean that you are changing the cartridge but not the infusion set?

Nicole, yes I’m changing the cartridge. I have no problems with the infusion sets.

There's no way to bypass it : (

I had a decade of no insurance, and so I got REALLY good at using every last drop, reusing pieces that aren't meant to be reused, and so forth.... Don't tell anyone I shared such a thing, but you can just catch the drips from the end of the tubing (I usually use the infusion set packaging as a catcher, I pretend its clean and sterile even after I open it) and suck it back up with a syringe to put wherever you want (like back in the vial for later).
