Finally did it...injected the wrong insulin

Those stories are something! Both were suicide attempts... not me! Mine was just a stupid mistake. Interesting to read some of the experiences there in that thread as well (I'd not seen that one before -- thanks for pointing it out).

Yep, I've done it. Fortunately I was SUPER insulin resistant at the time and I caught myself half-way through so it was no great disaster -- but it did scare the you-know-what out of me. My night-time Levemir dose was 40 IU at the time -- which I split into two injections of 20 IU each. That's a LOT of carbs if I inject Novolog instead. Eeek.

Now I keep the Levemir in the fridge and the Novolog has a big orange post-it taped around it with the 28-day expiration date from when I opened it.

I still picked it up one night, though, and caught myself right away. Ingrained habits are hard to consciously monitor. We're only human.

Yay! I'm glad you're OK. Being diabetic means we get lots and lots of "learning experiences". Me? I'd prefer a bit more "ignorance is bliss". ;)

Hang in there!

I worry about this happening, but fortunately it hasn't yet. It's incredibly irritating that Novo Nordisk puts both Levemir and Novolog in a dark blue pen. Glad you're okay, Timmy!

i have only done that once so far ,i am sure it will happen again

Been there, done that.

It’s a scary feeling when you realize what a major mistake you have made. The only positive is the major amount of sugar you get to eat in order to save your life!

What helped me to remember was that my Levemir came in a green pen and the Novolog came in an orange pen. I used these colors as green=safe for a large dose and orange=danger for a large dose. Whenever I pulled out the orange pen I would think “Dangerous! Double check your dosage.”
