So...I just went to take my evening injection of 18 units of Lantus and shot up with the Humalog by mistake. I'll just lurk a bit while I drink this can of ginger ale...
Someone is here with me, thanx
I thought I did that once. I was eating glucose like a fiend & ready to call 911. Got myself to over 300 in preparation for the crash & readings didn't budge. Turns out I did take the correct insulun & spent the rest of the night trying to correct the high. Got zero sleep & felt really stupid.
Glad you're not alone.
Happens to everybody now and then..........leave the Lantus in the bedroom and the Humalog in the Kitchen. Keeping them separate takes the guessing out. Don't keep 'em side by side. Just a thought. Happy Holidays!
I see your post was many hours ago, half; you probably picked the one day of the year that twenty people don't respond instantly! By now, I'm sure you're ok, and got through it with lots of glucose, other carbs and testing a lot. Let us know how it went. One of the dangers of the bolus/basal shots! (Pumps don't have that, but have their own)
Carmel popcorn, tootsie rolls and a can of ginger ale did the trick. My gut's kinda upset today but other than that I'm okay. Now I just have to work on that eating obsessively problem.
At least you picked a good day to do it, probably LOTS of carbs around with it being Christmas. Glad everything worked out and overall you are doing well.
Glad to hear you're okay! Yeah, obsessive eating is hard. I have 17 years recovery from an eating disorder. One think I discovered is sugar is definitely addictive and for me the best way to break that addiction is not to eat it at all. Except for glucose tablets of course. Many people find carbs in general are addictive as well.
Ya, carbs and sweets. I did pretty good today.
Cool! One suggestion is to substitute foods you really enjoy. If you don't, then you'll feel really deprived and crave the sweets and carbs. It does get easier. I can sit at a table with people eating goodies and don't even flinch.
Alas, carbs and sweets ARE the foods I enjoy. Not a fruit and veggie eater by nature. I eat a lot of salads/fruit/veggies because I have to, and a few bites are okay but it's always an effort.
