If it is VERY inaccurate, calibration will just shut down the sensor.
Calibration doesn’t do much, except in the ‘no code’ mode.
If you continue to have problems, go ahead and set up the next sensor in ‘calibration’ mode. That will force it to tune itself to your calibrations.
If this isn’t clear, I mean starting up the sensor without entering that code on the bottom. That will make it run off your calibrations. Might help.
Whoa!! NOT true. When using a code with a G6, a calibration works just like with a G5. I’ll do one cal the first day and all is good by day two, if not sometime during day-1. Please don’t tell people that calibrating a G6 when it is running in coded mode “doesn’t do much”. My wife also has gotten her coded G6 to perform very well by doing a solitary calibration.
You can read tons and tons of comments about the G5 and G6 on FB groups. There are at least 4 active groups relating to Dexcom.
I calibrate my G6 all the time after a new one and a restart and it makes it fall in line faster. If I don’t calibrate it, it’s not as accurate either, I tried to ride it out at the beginning and well yuk for me. Sometimes I fine tune it along the way.
I do know if it’s a huge difference sometimes it doubts the calibration and will keep wanting more calibrations and not stop lol…that’s when a restart just works out better.
But definitely at least one calibration is the best bet at least for me.
I am hit or miss on calibrating the first sensor, I never know if it’s needed.
I would say on the restarts, I am about 75% of the time going to calibrate it. This is just me being nit-picky though. Probably only need to do it 50%?
My second-ever G6 is dead-on accurate at 2 hours. Let’s see if it does better than my first one, after the next few hours. The first sensor went goofy after a short time and didn’t get into line until day 2.
@Dave44, if my restart is too accurate too fast without a calibration, for me it usually means it’s going to be off later, but at two hours it probably will be okay.
You know better, right? As long as a code is entered, a calibration doesn’t trigger the annoying “calibrate now” messages. Tell me you were joking or I’m going to have to refer you to the instructions
