Flat Feet and Diabetes

Echoing the positive sentiments about Ecco! I live in their side-zip sneaker-like slip-ons in the soft microsuede. They’re so comfortable and the arch support is so perfect that if I don’t need to dress up, I live in them.

ON shoes (I like the original no-tie Cloud) and ECCO side-zip sneakers are my go-to shoes. I saw an orthopedic surgeon last month who also recommended HOKA but I’ve never tried them.

A running/cyclist friend of mine swears by Hokas. I went to our local running store. While Chris the wonder laced me up in a pair of Hokas, he got out about 5 other types of shoes. This may be because he evaluated my gait walking away from him.

He had me do a little jog around the store. The Hokas were a no-go for me, caused knee pain, I forget the next brand, but was similar. Finally it was Brooks that worked for me.

It is really difficult to make a recommendation of a shoe as our feet are so unique, from how we walk, run and the effects of gravity on them. I never buy any shoes without trying them on and walking in them, even cycling shoes.

Recently I bought a pair of the ugliest shoes, Crocs. I have to admit they are very comfortable.

I wear Altra Superior 5 for running. No pressure points at all. I also wear Crocs flip flops in the summer for walking. Also no pressure points and both give sufficient support for my fairly high arches.

UPDATE: I am using the Voltaren gel as prescribed with 5 min of foot massage. My foot is improving. Less metatarsal pain but still pain on top of the foot and around the ankle. I used to wear Asics MC plus shoes for overpronators. They were heavy but stable running shoes. That was all I wore for 15 years. Then Asics changed the formula and no longer made the same shoes. Current versions were cheaper versions of the original shoe, in cut, toe room, etc Then I went to Brooks but they were worse for me. Back to Asics now with the GT 4000. I am also wearing Superfeet Blue and PowerStep original insoles. PowerStep is softer but I think Superfeet Blue is more supportive. I tried Superfeet Green but will be returning them as they take up too much room in my shoes and the arch was too high for comfort.

I also asked the podiatrist for a physical therapy referral to learn how to strengthen the area if possible. If I do not get a referral I will use Youtube videos
