I’m type 1 and I’ve been on levemir (and novo-rapid) for about 2 years now.
Yesterday my stomach was bothering me…now today all day I have extreme body aches, and chills.
The thing is, I hardly ever get full-on flu’s or colds. I usually just get slightly sick, then it passes.
I’ve taken extra strength tylenol today and it hasn’t helped. I read that levemir can cause flu-like symptoms, and I’ve heard of people becoming allergic to their insulins after taking them for some time. Has anyone has this happen with levemir, and how do you find out?
Actually, after two years I would find it highly unlikely that suddenly Levemir would give you flu like symptoms. I suspect that there is a much simpler explanation like you actually are sick or are having allergic reactions to the spring pollen or you just ate some bad shellfish.
I’m in agreement with Brian. Maybe you have what Kerri Sparling refers to as [a very severe case of] “Real People Sick” in her Terms of Diabetes Endearment:
Real People Sick: The differentiation between bloodsugar issues and the common cold. Phrase slips out most often when the diabetic admits to not feeling well and must specify that it is not bloodsugar related.
I hope you get to feeling better very soon.
LOL! “Real people sick” I had never heard that expression before. Yes, it turned out it was just a case of being sick. I’ve been a little freaked out the last few days after seeing my eye Dr. He said I better get my #s down before things start happening. Well at least this was something normal. Thanks
