For those of you who do MySpace and Facebook

… this is how I feel about it.
PHD Comics: Facebook

Although, somehow I’m all plugged in here…

That hit close to home. Here’s a post I wrote on my blog about this very topic:

Part of me feels kind of two-faced about critiquing the involvement with social networking in general while participating in it here. I refuse to do MySpace or Facebook, but I’m okay with being involved in the Diabetes Online Community (diabetesoc.blogspot.com) and this network here at TuDiabetes. I guess we all have different levels of appropriateness in sharing who we are, and for me it’s based on shared experience - I’d rather talk to people with diabetes online because I don’t know that many in real life. Weird, huh?

I agree. And by getting to “know” more people who DO share these not-so-common experiences (diabetes, pumping, etc.) we can learn. I’ll still have to give myself a limit, so I don’t die with my fingers curled over the keyboard, but I think an appropriate dose of social networking (maybe I’ll adopt notworking from now on!) just may prove to be healthy. Now if only we could get Manny to share with us his tricks for making it an economic viability as well…
