Just wanted to share in case you guys hadn’t seen!
hi, ive been on the libre for nearly 12 months now as well as using the aviva for bgl 7 times a day and i have found that the cgm highly exagerates in both high and low directions for example if the bgl says iam 11 mmhol (multyply by 13 to get mg/dl) the the libre will say i’m 26 or if i’m 4.5 it will say i’m 2.5 so base your insulin on the bgl as the libre is only usefull for showing the trend so u can modify your insulin dose either way. Ridiculous price for that use
Being US based, I can only go on what I read. But something seems not quite right here. First, my understanding is that the conversion from mmols to mg/dl is 18, not 13. I also understand that when BS is rapidly changing, there can be a significant difference between Libre readings and a BS meter. But my understanding was that just extreme (but steady) readings were not so much a problem.
Finally, knowing trends can be extremely helpful, even if the absolute numbers are wrong. A while back, a large-scale study in Europe showed that users of Libre were getting improved control. And that control increased with the number of their readings each day.
I’m certainly interested in getting a Libre when they become available in the US. So, can others clarify what the expectations should be?
Visit to Endo 10 days ago resulted in him having me try the Libre for 14 days. It’s application was quick and painless.
Don’t want to go thru, what I perceive to be an actual chore (at my advanced age - Lol) the use of a standard cgm. I would much prefer the Libre. But, of course, the price would be a crucial factor in making my choice. Medicare won’t pay for my Omnipods and, needless to say, wouldn’t pay for the Libre.
