@Jay6, I have no other device than my iPhone. My Medicare G6 start-up pack contained a transmitter and a 3-pack of sensors. Period.
I’m on the first sensor using 8J and will try restart. In a couple dsys. Started with 80, 81s that were easy to restart. Then had a couple 81s, both tricky to restart, and both of them had problems and were replaced by dexcom. Then an 8G as replacement that went 90+ days.
I’m not giving up on restarting, but I won’t be horribly disappointed if it doesn’t work. Forewarned is forearmed, and all that.
At least I got some good news today. My next shipment from CCS Medical will be a 90 day supply. I’ve read here in the forum that distributors can do this, and I’m gratified that it’s still so.
I was using ccs medical for dexcom, but this year learned my insurance will cover dexcom G6 as pharmacy (ExpressScripts, but can get locally). Much less stressful, on auto refill and no extra time for shipping. I’m not happy with CCS Medical at all. They sent 2 transmitter every 6 months, and just barely got 90 days for 2nd one. With pharmacy I can do every 3 months.
I have used CCS for my pump supplies for 4 years and never had a problem with them.
Our daughter’s G6 does this a few times a year and we don’t know why. The one she is wearing now asks for a calibration. We have never entered “no code”. I assume it is an error in the system. After warm up we will check her finger but for the rest of them we just enter the number that appears on the screen.
MamaB1, it’s possible the change in your supplier and the calibration you entered early in the session are coincidences.
Like Bridgesbunch’s daughter I’ve been using the G6 for about a year (I think) and I’ve had two sensors during that time which have asked for daily calibrations with no rhyme or reason as far as I could tell. All the other G6s worked as they are supposed to: calibration free.
I called Dexcom about it. They didn’t have an explanation. They just said it was within the acceptable range of functioning (or something like that, I don’t really remember).
Anyway, I bet your next sensor won’t have the same problem.
In my 8 months with the G6 I’ve found that calibration if the first couple of sensor readings sets up a cycle of requests for calibrations. Wait a little while for things to settle before jumping to calibrate. Also if the reading is way off of your finger stick at any time it might be better to nudge it back into line with a couple of calibrations over an hour or more. Just enter a number closer to the sensor readings rather than your real finger stick. The system doesn’t seem to like big calibration differences.
Your recommendations make a lot of sense, especially about calibrating down over time. I wouldn’t have thought to do that on my own. This has been a real ‘live and learn’ experience for me. Thank goodness I have a group of folks who are savvier with diabetes technology than I and can help me navigate the shoals. Thanks!
@MM1, it appears that the 90 day refill may not be applicable. I can’t really tell whether the 3 in the order information is 3 sensors or 3 boxes.
Also, my attempt to restart my sensor was a fail. It appeared to work, but there were multiple sensor failures during the day, so I gave up and inserted a new one, which has worked fine so far. Here’s the weird thing: The failed sensor and the new one both have the same SN.
Also, I spoke to my pharmacy and messaged my doctor, and was able to get a prescription for test strips; not a lot, but I shouldn’t need a lot. Good day.
Having the same code is common, and with only 4 digits there has to be. I get repeats often.
As for restart, dexcom is making it more difficult with newer, smarter transmitters.
What are the first 2 digits of your transmitter?
8L
I suspected that this might be the end.
I have 8G, but have to remove the sensor, wait 20 minutes, then put sensor back. Then do start new sensor. Sometimes get 4-10 days, and often more bg checks and calibrations. 8J may be smarter at detecting same sensor, although not due to same code being entered.
My supplier shows quantity 3 on my orders, and it is 3 boxes, ( 9 sensors).
