G7 Inserter

I agree with your, Bob. At the same time on Facebook I read of people who have had no issues and think it is wonderful. But there are lots of us having problems and lots of people choosing to stay with G6 as long as possible. Having never been a Dexcom problem child in previous years, I am certainly one now…

I am also using the g7 now but my experience has been different in two different versions. Let’s start with the Applicator:

  • you need to press the applicator to your skin until the outer area of the applicator touches your skin. The inner part retracts when you do that and then as a safety precaution the release button to insert is able to insert upon pressing. Honestly I didn’t understand this and was worried in the beginning as well.
  • compared to g6 applicator, g7 never made me bleed so far even though I am skinny, and when pressing g7 I was really scared. But the applicator and the needle is very nicely designed compared to the huge spear size needle in g6 applicator where I always needed to elevate prior insertion otherwise it would always bleed for me.
  • about the readings, this the most important one, I’ve used only one older version of g7 that was not compatible with tandem insulin pump and that version was extremely unreliable. Scattered readings, not accurate readings. However the newer updated dexcom g7 sensors with LBL underlined white color on the package are reliable and very good finally. So check which version you have from it’s box and remember the logic behind the applicator how to do it. Fully press the device onto skin while maintaining it press the button. It’s very quick and painless, if I don’t feel anything not even a child would feel anything. All the best.:four_leaf_clover:

That is good news to hear. How did you become aware of this information?
Is it on Dexcom’s Website or what?

Your reference to: “However the newer updated dexcom g7 sensors with LBL
underlined white color on the package are reliable and very good finally.”
Is not clear to me. I noted a number out from the LBL letters. Can you
provide me with a number from a sensor with the underlined white color or
can you give me MFG and USE BY dates on one of the new sensor that you have
in your supply. The latest sensors in my inventory have a Made date of
2023-07-01 and a Use date of 2024-12-31. What are the dates on your newer
sensors if you can share them?

Thanks, for any other information that is can share will be appreciated.

Bob

The only way to understand new version is just by looking at the package, it’s not by any numbers. I’m attaching you my packages of new g7s. Pay attention only to the lowest “LBL-xxxxxxx…” White underlined. If yours is not like that, dexcom replaced mine, but it was through tandem website redirected to dexcom. When I received my 9 new g7s, I shipped back the incompatible g7s back to dexcom. My cgm supplier is Byram Healthcare DME. On my new order I had to inform the DME to provide the new compatible g7s and they changed it in my order. I have received new g7s from my DME since then.

Just for you to be able to differentiate I’ll attach the old g7 (incompatible version with horrible cgm readings) the attached photos are older versions. Pay attention to the LBL which is not underlined.

I currently use G6, but will receive G7 supply soon. I have a couple of questions for the group. Is there a limited time frame for the option of going back to G6. Also, I use my Tandem t:slim as my main receiver but I also see readings on my iPhone and have Dexcom Clarity app. What is everyone else doing?
Thanks, Jane

I am using the underlined Tandem-compatible sensors and have the same issues with them that I had with the previous non-compatible sensors. I think the latest two to fail with apparently no sensor wire were both Tandem-compatible. The jumpiness of the readings through the first day or two has not improved. I understand how the inserter should supposedly work but I struggle every time. I keep being optimistic with every new sensor that the insertion will be easier but I obviously don’t have the knack. And I guess that “a child” is luckier than I am because many of my insertions have been painful. But glad it is working well for you.

Allison1 - you said you are using the G6 & G7 simultaneously. Do you know if you can do that with an iphone as the controlling device (i.e., running both the G6 and G7 app at the same time)?

I am an Android user, so I don’t know. But on my phone the G6 and G7 apps are different so it’s not a problem.

Really, you know how to make a fellow’s day, NOT. I was jumping for joy
when I read Sin’s post on the newer sensor and now you are telling me that
the newer one is no better. :frowning: Just a note, I have yet to have success on
first try insertion. I can say that I have had very little pain from
insertions with the G7 and only had one time with pain when using the G6.

HAVE A GREAT DAY,

Bob

I have a three month supply of the G7 sensors, none of them have the LBL underlined. Is that a concern? I do not use a pump. Do you think that my unreliable G7 readings are due to this? Do you think if I contact Dexcom they would replace 9 sensors? Is my supplier at fault for sending the old ones (last order was December 22)? Suggestions for what I might do are welcome!

I’m sorry about your experience Laddie. I’ve met several people same experience as mine. I am just hoping yours will get better too. Lately the only issue couple of times I faced was out of range on my tandem pump, but temporary issue only. Maybe the Bluetooth signal of the pump receiver is not compatible I’m not very sure. But the dexcom g7 app on my phone always displays the readings and quite accurately. If you have bleedings from g7, how was your experience with g6? For me g6 was much more painful and bleedings were more often.

Yes Bob, g6 is way much more painful and risky for bleeding compared to g7. And you can find out by trying the new g7 yourself. (The ones with LBL underlined). As others in only sharing my own experience and observations.

Susan, I’ve only tested one old g7 without the underlined label, and that was only for 36 hours then I removed it because the readings were ridiculous and unbearable. I can’t say if all of them are the same, but I’ve seen many old version g7 users and their BG reading charts very always scattered. Nothing stable. I’ll attach you my dexcom g7 app (I inverted the colors on iPhone. I can’t stand bright white) you can tell yourself the stability of the readings. Tomorrow I’ll replace the new g7 and show you if I don’t forget how it’s also. About replacing your dexcom old g7s with the new g7. I did that by a link through the tandem website, which directed to dexcom website where I ordered from dexcom directly 9 new g7 sensors without any payment. Then when I received them by FedEx, I sent back the old dexcom g7s to dexcom (I had to call them to get the return shipping labels). After that I made sure to call my DME supplier (Byram Healthcare) and change my g7 orders to tandem compatible g7s to get the correct updated g7s. Remember it doesn’t matter if you use the pump or not, they all work with the same g7 app on the phone. It’s just that the readings are different. If you want you can try it through the link to request replacement like I did. Suppliers just send the inventory they have. But when there are different category of the same product, you have the right to choose  following link has “go to form” bottom of the page . When you choose that it should transfer to the dexcoms correct address where you can place the amount of g7s you need (Tandem Order)

Merry Christmas to everyone :slightly_smiling_face:

The underlined boxes are required for those with Tandem pump updated.

Details here.

I did find the underlined white color on the boxes of my latest sensors. I was looking on the actual insertion device and you photo took me to the box and the white line.

I will be using the newer sensors in a few weeks and hop to see better results.

Thanks,

Bob

I don’t know if there’s any marker on the sensor applicator. I only know there’s one indication on the box. I hope you get better results :slightly_smiling_face: I’m on my grace period now. I’ll just change it at the end of 12 hrs as usually (grace period)

I inserted a new sensor yesterday because the previous sensor was still jumping around and inaccurate on Day 5 and I couldn’t deal with it anymore. The new sensor inserted perfectly with the button easy to push and absolutely no pain. I wish that I could say that I did something different but I don’t think that I did. But it also started up accurately with less jumpiness than my previous sensors. Maybe less insertion trauma?

Although I did have occasional bleeding with G6, it was much less common than G7. And I rarely had blood underneath the sensors when I removed them while almost every G7 does. Not a lot, but always some. I think some of that has to do with the 90-degree filament wire rather than the angled wire.

I don’t notice any differences between the Tandem-compatible sensors and the previous G7 sensors. Both connect to my phone with no issues and I haven’t seen any improvement in accuracy or jumpiness. Given the choice, I would prefer Dexcom go back to data smoothing and more color on the graph.

I will hope that my new sensor has routed me back to the road to success with G7…

I hate that this is happening to you, Laddie, but I hope you are reporting all these issues, bleeding, hard to insert and jumpy readings.

I am still on G6, and hoping that the G7 will work correctly as I rely on C-IQ Tandem especially at night. I have issues with the G6 getting stupid around day 7, but I am aware of the issue and when it happens I do finger sticks or just change it out and report.

I’ve used 3 G7’s, one on back of upper arm, abdomen and thigh:

  • Upper arm: Very erratic glucose number and got a big and painful knot immediately after puling sensor. Guardian sensor way back produced a knot the only other time I tried my arm. Back of my arm just is not a good site CGM sensors.

  • Thigh: Not great, but workable with a few extra test strips when I need to give abdomen a break. The smaller sensor size helps.

  • Abdomen/Stomach: Worked best here, but not nearly as good as G6. First 2 days little erratic and inaccurate.

I like the 12 hour “grace” period, but not as much as the G6 hack for restarting a sensor. The integrated battery/transmitter circumvents extra steps VA added for getting new G6 transmitters.
