Let’s be honest here. Not all of us take care of ourselves as well as we should. So, confess! Have you ever:
-Skipped a shot by accident?
-Skipped a shot on purpose?
-Had an almost fatal low?
-Passed out / fainted / had a seizure because of a low or high?
-Not checked your sugar for long periods of time?
-Used your diabetes as an excuse to get out of something?
-Made up numbers to fill up your logbook?
-(For people whose doctors actually go through their machines) Checked your sugar, changed the ti-me and date, then checked it again?
-Gotten really angry and yelled at a doctor who told you you “weren’t trying hard enough”?
-Made up an excuse so your parents would re-schedule your appoinment with the endo?
I’m curious, because you would never admit to this stuff with your parents or doctor, right?
Sorry, I may not be your best case study. But yeah, its true from me that sometimes I can’t be bothered, but usually I try my best to keep it steady. My parents don’t understand diabetes despite my efforts to “educate” them. My father doesn’t look after himself and believes he is perfect with one BG test a day, before breakfast… My doc is good, and I disclose most things with her. So sorry again if I am not your perfect case study…
It’s SO hard being a teenager with diabetes! Watching other teenagers (especially if you’re the only diabetic in your grade or school) just go about their business and have fun and not worry about testing or bolusing is almost painful. Sometimes it’s easiest just to let go and forget, but then you feel bad with high blood sugars. Diabetes doesn’t give us a vacation! Unfortunately, a lot of teenagers can get sick of it and just blow off diabetes, which is extremely dangerous. It’s really helpful to have a good support team behind you, a support team who you can go to and say “I’m sick of this and I don’t want to test anymore” and get help!
oh thank god!! I was feeling so bad thinking that loads of people were gonna be like yes to everything and then everyone was like oh no, no I don’t do that!
Thank you for letting me know I’m not a completly terrible diabetic!
