hello to all! i just signed up for this site today. i was reading an article about this site in diabetic living and thought it was really interesting. i do not know a lot of people with diabetes. i think it would be great to meet diverse people with the same disease i struggle with everyday.
my name is mary. i was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when i was 8 yrs old. i am now 19. i have tutored kids that were diagnosed with diabetes at a young age, just like myself. i taught them that having a disease doesn’t make you any different and you should never let it hold you back. i work part-time at a sports store & i am a full-time college student.
hello, Mary, we are glad to have you jointhe family here at TuDiabetes. I am sure you will be able to make many friends here. We all help each other here. I’ve had it for 41 years, and it never gets easier it seems. But the support and understanding I’ve found here is very comforting.
Hi Mary! I’m so glad that you joined! It’s great that you have had an impact on kids living with type 1 diabetes. Hope that you will join in many of our conversations!! It’s always good to know that we are not alone!
Greetings from TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA, where INSULIN was discovered by DRS.BANTING & BEST, JULY 30 1921. My advice to you as a 91 year, young, insulin-dependent since 1977, who has being a ROLE MODEL, to over 40.000 and still trailblazing, is learn as much as you can about your diabetes and you will LIVE LONGER. 1 have a good diabetic team, diabetic doctor, dietian, podiatrist, social worker, pharmacist, 2. wear a MEDIC-ALERT,bracelet, it can SPEAK for you in case of an emergencies. 3. listen to your BODY, it tells you when to eat, snack, rest, EXERCISE, sleep. 4. have a DIABETIC BUDDY someone you can call EVERYDAY, it can serve 2 purposes, make SOMEONES DAY, by showing you CARE, also could SAVE A LIFE. Try my way of setting up a diabetes social group. Call 5 DIABETICS, EVERYDAY, and have each person call 5 diabetics. To celebrate a special event, have a dietitan accompany a small group to an all-you-can-eat eatery and teach them to make right choices and portions. It might make diabetics eat out with confidence. AMIGOKIT Keep In Touch and let me know how it worked out… Strive to live to be 100.
