Have not been on here in a while.
Had a bad reaction needed a Glucagon shot 3 days ago. Now I Can’t not seem to get blood sugars down. Tried different insulins different vials using Afrezza and Humalog and toujeo. Busted my back up during the reaction pretty bruised.
Ouch. I’ve had Gluc 3 times in my life and for me the crazy-high bg’s it caused lasted a very short time. Less than 6 hours, for sure. Dunno what to advise, but hope your bg’s get back on an even keel quickly and you don’t crash so low u need Gluc. My Dexcom keeps me pretty safe, as does pumping/carb counting. Before getting a pump I was a mess and that’s when I needed gluc.
I agree with Dave. Glucagon shouldn’t be impacting you 3 days later.
“Glucagon has been studied following intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intravenous administration in adult volunteers. Administration of the intravenous Glucagon showed dose proportionality of the pharmacokinetics between 0.25 and 2.0 mg. Calculations from a 1 mg dose showed a small volume of distribution (mean, 0.25 L/kg) and a moderate clearance (mean, 13.5 mL/min/kg). The half-life was short, ranging from 8 to 18 minutes.”
Sad to hear this.
When my body is injured, my stress hormones go way up and my basal insulin can act more like water than insulin. When things are so wildly out of control, I will have a quick discussion with my endo to chart a way forward.
thanks everybody.
I think it was just a lot of things.
Injuries, Stress from family and maybe some bad insulin.
I got a new prescription and took some things off my plate and extra sleep. BS are good now.
