How does Lantus work? and Levimir?

I found this great explanation of how the two insulins work:

In my experience so far, though, it seems like my Lantus causes me to drop soon after I take it (I call it “fresh Lantus effect.”)

It is so apparent in me that I sometimes plan for it to offset my food. Also I have started taking my Lantus 3x per day at smaller doses to lessen the “fresh basal” drop.

Could it be that the Lantus is not “precipitating” at my injection site as it is supposed to and being absorbed rapidly instead?

Does anyone else experience a BG drop soon after taking Lantus?

I am currently taking Lantus 11 units/day 3x = 4 4 3 at 5:00 am 11:00 am and 5:00 pm

My I:C for Novolog bolus is about 17 (if I have had exercise) or about 14 (if it has been several days without exercise.)

Lantus usually takes hours to take action. If you read the prescribing instructions, it is very important to inject Lantus subcutaneously. If you aren’t don’t inject it into bodyfat, it can act like a rapid insulin. Is it possible you have injected your Lantus into your muscle or vein? Have you been injecting into you abdomen?

Not an immediate drop, but a decided Lantus peak 3-4 hours after injecting. I’m doing better on split doses of Levemir.
