How long will Dexcom CGM be accurate since my ping broke

Hi! My animas ping that tests my sugar is not working suddenly while I am away. My sugars are pretty even right now at about 100 so I just calibrated saying to the Dexcom that the sugar displayed was correct. A drug store is a little far to go buy a back up meter to test my blood. How many extra hours/days can I go without accurate calibration or should I just stop bring lazy and go now? Thank you!

I'd get one as soon as possible. I don't dose insulin based on Dexcom.

If you enter calibrations that are not really from a meter BG test, you could make the Dexcom even more unpredictable. A calibration is not required to be entered when it is prompting for one, you will still get readings.

I wouldn't want to go very long without a fingerstick meter. As MegaMinxX said, it's not a good idea to dose insulin without a meter and it's also dicey to treat a "low" using Dex data only. If it were me, I would make the extra effort to get a meter ASAP. I know it's tempting to just rely on the Dex data stream. Sometimes it hits a period where it strongly correlates, but even during good runs it benefits from fingerstick calibrations.

Let's hope that five years from now, you'll tell this story about the "dark ages of early CGM technology."

Thank you… Going to the store now. I can’t wait for about five years from now. After over 40 years of dealing with diabetes, I am planning the biggest “Sugar ~ I beat Diabetes party” going!

Please pardon the off-topic excursion.

Interesting idea, celebrating diabetes anniversary with an "I vanquished diabetes for 40 years years" attitude. Kind of a triumphant note of "kicking ■■■ and taking names" victory over diabetes.

I've always pictured my struggle with diabetes as a defensive one, that of a survivor. While that is one way of framing the tension, why not think of it as not just playing defense well but of actually assuming a fighter's posture and sense of power toward the disease.

I will have been in this fight for 30 years come next January, a round number.

The dexcom stops giving readings after a certain period of time without calibration. Maybe 4 hours?

Terry:

Bless you. Survivior - hell yes.

This type 2- 30 years plus finally got mess under control and bloody thankful
I will not end up in pine box prematurely.

You have captured the essence of this wicked disease and thank you for your excellent understanding comments. Survivor - hell yes!

May your Gods go with you.
