sometimes i will prick my little fingers 10+ times a day to figure out where my level is at. generally its usually before each meal, two hours after, and before i go to bed - then i check it before i begin a work out and in between workouts, then again after. Also, whenever i start to feel funny.
after getting into a big mix up with my prescription for test strips i went to the store to buy a box. a box for 100 test strips for the precision x-tra meter is 114 dollars! i was shocked. ended up buying a whole new meter and test strips for cheaper than the box.
now im starting to think maybe im becoming testing crazy and a little excessive? just wanted to see how everyone else deals with daily testing
well at first i would just test before meals and before bedtime.
but i’ve been a little test crazy too lately.
i test before and after each meal and snack. and whenever i feel like im high or low, just to check.
and im almost of strips so i should probably take it easy today! haha.
Before I had insurance I bought a meter at Sams Club because of the price of the strips. I usally test about 10 times a day but if Im having trouble I test much more. Before I was using the pump I did not test as often, usally before meals and before injections. I cant believe how much better I feel testing more often.
I’m not as formal in my testing as lot of people are (ex. 2 hours after eating, before meals, etc.) I just test whenever I’m curious to see where I’m at. And usually that means 8-10 times a day. I’m just blessed because my insurance is generous in paying for strips and a friends mom gives me the hookup from time to time with sample strips
I test a minimum of 12 times a day. My endo did an override for me and I supplement by buying strips off ebay if necessary. I always check the expiration date and only buy from well established sellers. I got 200 strips for $50 including S&H last month so I could stockpile some supplies in case of an emergency.
At least 10-12 times a day, for sure. Before each meal, before, during, and after exercise, after meals, before driving, before bed, you name it…my fingers are spent! But it’s worth it.
The retail price of test strips is outrageous. If I ever run out and need to buy them, the cashiers at Target always do a double take, saying “That can’t be the right price”. Tell me about it!
hi denise,i also test 7-10 times daily and sometime even more, the more you test the more you know what your level are,so i think all the testing is good management.
I’m like Dave. I test a lot. At least 15 times a day, though often 20 (or more). I test when I want to know what I am or when I think my blood sugars might have changed a bit. (I obsess over my diabetes and am pretty much constantly wondering what my sugars are and where they’re going.) It makes me feel better to know what my sugars are.
I test a good 15 times a day =pp. I get 400 strips for 25 days. and if I ever ended up running out they have some good store brand strips that cost like 100 for 40 bucks and the meter is like 15 bucks at CVS. check it out!
I probably test 10 times per day. Some days of course I test about 3 times. However, most times it is 10 and if for some reason I am ill, I crank up to 15 or 17.
I now test abit more then I used to when I was MDI - since going on the pump I test about 6-8 times a day (more so when things are abit wacky of course). I found that when I don’t test - before “guessing” at how much insulin to give say for a few crisps (don’t keep them in the house much - they talk to me - telling me to eat them) - my BG tends to be high when I do test a bit later. It’s better to test prior to eating for me. I use the Freestyle Lite - so am lucky enough because it uses a small droplet of blood (I think the smallest on the market) - that taking blood from my forearm is very easy - and gives my fingertips a rest. I’m also lucky that my husband has private insurance at his workplace (for now that is - who knows with this economy today - sigh) - so 100 strips cost $99 CDN - it’s not exactly cheap - but like others have said - I’ll rather give up my car (not my motorcycles - NEVER) - then give up on either my pump or my blood meter.
Me too! I always test before driving and often if it is a long trip. I almost wrecked last year from a low and it scared the crap out of me so never again will not test before driving.
I would say I’m a solid 8+ times a day tester. I’ve noticed over the years the direct correlation between average tests per day and A1C, at least for me.
i test around 8-12 times a day. before meals, 2 hours after, before workouts, 30 minutes into the workouts, 1 hour after, and before I sleep… thats just the minimum!
