How to get a Dexcom for a kid

What the heck? I was thinking of a Dexcom for my 10 year old, only to learn from the endo's office then the Dexcom website, that it's only approved for people older than 18. Why? I know some kids have them. How did they get them?

I wasn't 100% sure I wanted one, but not that I can't have one . . . .you know how that goes. I will not be denied!!!

There are alot of kids that have them. Your doctor can write the script as it being medically necessary. If you check out the Children With Diabetes CGMS forum, there are alot of parents that have the Dex for their kids. From what I have read, Dexcom won’t talk to you until your doctor gives them the script but once they have that, they are allowed to talk to you. Apparently, some insurance companies try to deny it because it was not approved for kids, but some parents have been able to get that decision appealed. Some insurance companies are willing to approve it without a problem. Whether or not your insurance company will approve it would be the biggest problem.

“Unfortunately, you usually have to do everyone else;s job for them” made me laugh. When I worked, I would say, “If everyone would just do their darn job like they’re supposed to … the other half of us wouldn’t have jobs!”)
