I failed to follow one of my rules

I use the G5

@DrBB - the “insertion device stuck to the sensor” has not happened to me (yet … tempting fate…), but I have read on a Facebook group that if you hit the entire mechanism with a wooden spoon, people have had good luck getting the mechanism to detach. Something to try in the future? I’m sure I would be panicking at that point.

And great to know on Dexcom saying that they automatically replace for having to pull a sensor for medical reasons. When I have called asking for replacements for MRIs, their stock response has been “we will replace it this once for you, but next time please schedule your MRI at a time when you’ve scheduled a sensor change” (yeah, right).

PS - I also “presoak” (and agree it’s a gross term!) and find it works so well. My first 24 hour numbers on a “fresh” sensor are always grossly off, but spot on with a well-soaked (eeew) sensor. -Jessica

Yes! Me! Was rushing to insert a new one and was distracted. Duh, couldn’t believe I did such a dumb thing. It was the last one I had in my house but I still have some G4’s so that’s what I’m using now till next week.

Have to keep that in mind! The other sensor-waster I’ve experienced with the G6 inserter has to do with that little orange plastic guard you’re supposed to snap off that prevents it from firing accidentally. Guess what: if you’re not careful when snapping off the guard, you can hit the button, causing it to fire accidentally. Not only is this hilariously ironic, it also gives a pretty impressive demo of just how much power is stored up in the spring mechanism—my sensor flew all the way across the bathroom.

@DrBB OMGGGG!! I have worried about snapping the little plastic guard off and shooting the sensor into my foot or something like that! The things we need to keep under control…!!! (I hope you didn’t have to wait too long on hold with Dexcom to get that sensor replaced!)

As usual they were great about it. They knew exactly what I was talking about when I called. Apparently I’m not the only one who has done this. Fortunately I was holding it perpendicular to the floor and there was nothing fragile in its flight path.

I had the same thing happen to me last month and it was a first for me. I hit the button, the tape was stuck down, but it wouldn’t release. Talk about maddening! I thought I was losing my mind. So when I finally pulled it off (oh, so hard to do!) I saw it hadn’t released and the needle was just sticking out.
I did call and got a replacement and they wanted the whole thing back. I am hoping this is not an issue that might be popping up!
