I feel so welcome

Hi everyone I am new here and just wanted to introduce myself to everyone.

I just want to say that I have only been a member for a few hours and already can tell this place is great. I received such a warm welcome I love it :) It's nice to meet all of you.

I am a type 1 diabetic for the past 10yrs. I have been on and off the pump and currently on shots. I also have horrible control most of the time. My last A1C was actually good for once and I want to keep that up and not go back to being out of control. Especially since I now live alone and I had a great dog (the best dog ever) he was a Boston terrier and my best friend we were always together and I know it sounds crazy but we could figure out what each other was thinking. The last few years of his life he just started to wake me up at night pawing at me like crazy and every time I had low sugar. He passed away in June and my other 2 dogs haven't seemed to catch on to that. So I defiantly need to get help in keeping my sugars in control and this looks like the place to be for help and support :)

Welcome again!!! Hey u might want to join our pets & people group here.

Welcome Julie! So sorry abou the loss of our Boston.

You don't sound crazy to me at all, my dogs and I communicate with just a look too. My Jack Russells are NOT allowed to wake me up - it's a rule that's been passed down through their generations LOL. However, last year my 5 yo started jumping on and off the bed one morning and kicking up a fuss. Needless to say I was pretty pissed... until I looked at my CGM and saw a # in the 40s. She's continued to alert me; the other 2 haven't picked it up. I also live alone.

Congrats on getting your blood glucose under control. There's plenty of support here for keeping up the trend.

Oh I haven't gotten around to see that one yet but I am def going to join, thank you :)

Hi Julie- You will definitely find support and tons of useful info from our knowledgeable members. So sorry about the loss of your dog. Our pets are family members and we mourn their loss like we would a human family member. We will all try to help you, just start a discussion on a D subject and you will get lots of answers. Welcome !!!!!!

Thank you jrtpup
dogs are the greatest I just adopted a 6yr old pug from a shelter and he has the same calm attitude as my old Boston so I am hoping after a while he might catch on. My 2yr old girl Boston is a bit crazy and I don't think she would even try to catch on until she is older and calmer.

Thank you catlover, they really are family I actually spend more time with my dogs than most of my family members.I still get upset about losing him, I even got his name tattooed on my wrist with 2 little paws.

You might want to check out the Inked Diabetics group too :)

such a sweet dog! so sorry you lost him.

Julie welcome - TU seems to cover all issues that effect us. I am T1, have a black Lab who is currently getting close to requiring Prozac or help due to the fireworks in London (5th Nov). I have just pursaded her off the sofa to her basket !! Any questions please do ask.

Gos

Jgos - i'm am laughing at myself for writing this, but have you tried this for your dog? http://www.thundershirt.com/?gclid=CKeb_pnjqqwCFUoaQgodLEJpCA
my dad swears by it.

My 2 Bostons hated and hate fireworks and thunder. One would shake so bad that my whole bed would be shaking like crazy and the one I still have now does this nervous dance type thing on my head pretty much and tries to bury her self into my neck then she will be comfortable for a minute and I will hug her but then she gets nervous all over again and starts the whole freak out all over. My newest dog that I adopted from the shelter I am not sure yet how he feels about them I only had him for 2 weeks. He did come with a welcome home package from the shelter and it has this stuff called Rescue Remedy that you just add a few drops in their water and it's supposed to calm them down in stressful situations, so I am going to try that next time we are expecting a thunder storm and if it works I am buying a bunch. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=1233
I will let you know how it goes in case you want to try it

Welcome to TuD...glad you are here.

Thats fantastic - for the dog !! Ella is not to sure but we will keep trying !!
