My Husband is a Vol. Fireman. He can not get a license to drive a fire truck because he is insulin dependent. However, he can still be a fireman. I would think that you could be an EMT but probably just not drive the ambulance. I can ask if you like. Oh My Hubby was an EMT, he just stopped (in our FD) because of politics. I will still ask for you.
