I over ate to treat a low. Do I now bolus because I'm high?

I’m going back up but I ate a bunch of skittles and drank a juice. Darn, I hate that feeling.

Yes, I would go ahead and treat the high now. For the future, perhaps, you can figure out exactly what works best to treat a low and how much to get you to target without going high. The roller coaster is not good for us. But don't beat up at yourself, it's all a learning experience! For me I use glucose tablets - 2 if I am in the 50s, 30 if I'm lower. I then test after 30 minutes not the 15 some say. And if I'm still low I take another tablet.

Yes I would correct the low. Sometimes I even purposely overcorrect the low ie: drinking a full can of soda instead of 1/4 of it. Then when my BG hits a normal range, I bolus for all but 15-20 grams of the carbs I ate.

Doing this seems to get my lows up faster than the 15:15 method

doing this works very well if you know the reason why you are low or you are just slowly dropping. if you get caught off guard by a 32 out of nowhere, the above method may be dangerous, but if you find yourself at 60 just in time for lunch or a mid day snack, it works well

Bolus when you're back up to normal, I'd say at 140 or so.

This bouncing after a low is soooo frustrating to me! I can never quite know if it's because I over-treated the low, or if it's the liver kicking in stored glycogen as a reaction to the low. I only know that this is when I start to feel resentful and like I can't win. And it's hard to wait after taking the first 1 or 2 tabs to see if you've taken enough of them…

As others have said, you should treat the bounce. The problem is, how much? If you overdo it, you're low again in two hours or so.

Gotta do the calcs. Figure out the normal bolus for the amount of carbs you ate to counter the low. Then, figure the "reverse correction" for the low, and subtract that from the bolus amount.

You can then safely administer that dose, and you will likely land back near your target in 2-4 hours.

Example: Target BG=85. I:C 1:10. CF 1 : 25mg/dl.

Hypo @ 60. Reverse CF = (85-60) / 25 = 1U.

At 15 skittles == 15g, drank juice with another 15g for a total of 30. Normal bolus would be 30/10 = 3U.

Correct bolus is then 3-1 = 2U.
