Ilet pump site leaks

I have been using the iLet pump for 11 months now. It is LIFE changing!! I cannot say enough good about it. I love the AI technology and how it corrects my blood sugar on a micro level all through the day. It is absolutely a no-brainer to use this pump. I don’t have to count carbs. I can even start looking at my diet from a strictly caloric standpoint as opposed to my previous all-encompassing carb counting struggle.

Lately I have noticed that larger doses will leak at the site. Any dose I put as “more” has been leaking. This is problematic because the pump thinks I have that much insulin in me but I have no way of knowing how much actually went in; then the pump doesn’t correct until I’m very high because it’s counting on the existing delivered insulin to work. I’m going to experiment with not doing large doses for the rest of this infusion set and maybe do two normal doses instead.

You may be asking, well is your site in scar tissue? That is possible. But my current site is so far from my usual spots because of this problem of late that I know scar tissue might cause some blockage, so I picked as close to a “virgin” site as I could. I’m only on like 24 hours in as well so I am confused and concerned.

Anyone else having these issues? TIA!

I’m on a Tandem x2 and not the Ilet. However, on rare occasions, if I need to bolus anything above 6 units, I split the amount into two boluses, 20 minutes apart. I haven’t noticed any leaking, but it seems like it does not work as well in one large bolus. Sometimes I do an extended bolus with part (not necessarily 50/50) right away and the rest a bit later. You might try it on your Ilet.

I’ve had these problems with all pumps, Medtronic, tandem and omnipod. I discovered that for me it is insulin volume.
50units per day and the site craps out and leaks.
I’m on omnipod now and mt insulin is reduced with my current hclf diet so I’m just under this threshold, however when I take off the pod there is a small amount of leaking that I notice.
The infusion sets that work best are the angled sets. Vari soft or silhouette. The pods are all angled but not as steep as I would want it.
Also if your sites are red and irritated, you might. E allergic to the adhesive, and it works its way down the cannula.
So using a barrier like neosporin or Vaseline helps prevent that.

Does ilet let you give it extra info if you want? As in, can you extend boluses or otherwise tell it it’s a slow absorbing meal?

I know I personally can’t deliver more than 5 units at a time, otherwise I risk “tunneling”, where the insulin leaks up to the skin because it can’t be absorbed. I use the extended bolus option on my pump to give the rest, delivered over the shortest time the pump will allow. Thanks usually in the 12 to 21 minute range, depending on bolus size.

I also immediately suspected tunneling was at work. I’m limited to 2 or 3 units at one time by pod, and extend the rest or inject, though I recognize injecting throws off the algorithm.
