Today I tried my new meter, an Ultra Mini, for the first time. I have been using an Ultra 2 for several years but am currently going off metformin and am going through the process of determining the dosage of Lantus SoloStar alone. I wanted two meters, one for home use and one to keep in my purse. I first tested with my old meter. I pricked, wiped, then applied a healthy drop to the test strip. 153. Then, using the same prick but a new drop, I tested with my new meter. 121. 32 points difference! Really? I repeated both meters again and this time they came out almost identical at 132 and 133. I have been testing my sugars for several years, but today's experience has just blown me away. I feel like I have lost all confidence in blood sugar readings. I have never used the control solution, but it seems to me the meter should be consistent within itself. Suggestions, insights, experience anyone? Thanks!
