During the quarterly analysts’ call last night, company president Shacey Petrovic said Insulet is working closely with the FDA on general smartphone integration with the Omnipod system, which would eliminate the need for a separate PDM for users. She said the FDA is well aware that patients want this badly and said it might be available before the company’s Horizon closed-loop system becomes available, which I think is targeted for 2020. Security is the big issue, of course, and she said the FDA has set up panels to work on issues of cybersecurity involving medical devices.
