I have read a couple of different posts and blogs saying that they were going to try this but no follow up on whether or not it worked. Has anyone had success with this?
Looks like a quiet bunch here. Did you start on the Symlin yet? I saw another post that you were starting it soon.
It's a ghost town! Starting it on Thursday. Still trying to figure out if I can just throw it my pump with my insulin. I'm not too keen on doing shots again but I will if I have to.
Everything I've read says do not mix. The problem being is you do not always need the Symlin (only when you eat). Plus, you start at a small dose (15mcg) and work your way upward (to your ideal dose)because of potential problems, one being nausea. Your body needs to re adjust to having it in your system. I didn't want to do shots again either, but it really isn't a big deal for now. At least it is a pen to carry around. And if you don't take it, it isn't the end of the world. So far, it is helping with after meal spikes for me (I have a CGM, so I can see this), and actually allowing me to feel like I've eaten something. Since around my diagnosis, I've felt like I'm constantly starving all of the time, and that has really subsided. Probably should use as directed until you get a hang on how it works for you and you find your correct dose. I've been on it about a month.
Thanks for replying :) I will go by the book until I hear of some brave soul mixing and doing well with it. I am going to ask if I can get a V-Go for the Symlin. Then I will have a total of 3 things stuck to my body. Omnipod, Dexcom G4 and then the V-Go. Ugh lol! I'm a Cyborg!
I would NOT mix the two. Per Symlin's site (http://www.symlin.com/doc/SYMLIN_Medication_Guide.pdf):
Inject SYMLIN at a site that is more than 2 inches away from your insulin injection. Do not inject SYMLIN and insulin in the same site.
Never mix SYMLIN and insulin. Insulin can affect SYMLIN when the two are mixed.
Mixing can alter the pharmacokinetics of both products.
Insulin and symlin have different PH levels and prefixing them in a pump causes them to annilate one another. There are trials going on now with altered formulations, so for the time you will have to wait unless you want to use two pumps.
