We were just told in N. Delaware that it’s expected Irene will be a category 1 hurricane when it reaches us. Not nearly as dangerous as for those closer to the shore. Our main concerns are flooding, falling limbs and uprooted trees - the ground is already quite wet, so there’s a good chance that some trees will just give in to Irene’s winds. We expect to lose power, which is doable as long as my CGM doesn’t run out of gas.
The bathtub is full (we’re all electric, including our well pump), there’s plenty of protein around and frozen things to keep it cool if needed. Plenty of insulin, supplies and other meds. Flashlights, batteries and candles at hand. Sounds kinda romantic Everything that can be charged is charged. I’ve moved what I can lift into our sunroom - what’s left out, well, Irene will put it where she pleases!
I hope that everyone is prepared, that you’ve evacuated if you were told to, and that you do all you can to keep yourselves and your furkids safe. An opportunity to play some nice old fashioned board games methinks
Hi jrtpups – impressive photos. I see some places are having to contend with tornadoes as well, I’m hoping everyone is safe also. I can imagine that all this rampaging weather is tough on the furkids.
We may get to try out our brand new thundershirt. My Chaos gets really pissed off when it thunders because she can’t get it LOL. Terriers We’re more concerned about flooding and uprooting trees as the ground is already so wet.
I wish all the eastcoasters well also. I know I teased you all about your earthquake responses, but hurricanes are no joke! I guess all you can do is be prepared the best you can then just hope for the best…hmmm…kind of sounds like Diabetes management, no?
So far it’s rained a lot, and been a bit windy. Still waiting for the center. A tornado missed us by about a mile. We’ll see what happens overnight. Lost internet for 5 minutes, and satellite twice for 5 minutes.
Trudy, the dogs don’t give a sh*t about any of it except that it’s wet out. That means the wait till they have to go out, then need to come in and rub all the bad water off on a rug
I hope everyone else is ok so far too. It’s going to be a real disaster when it hits the Jersey shore and Phila.
