Iris Nevus?

I went in for my eye exam today. I went to the vision center at Walmart instead of the doctor I went to before. He didn't find any signs of retinopathy or glaucoma (yay!). But he said I have something called an Iris Nevus. He described it as something like an eye birthmark and it wasn't anything serious, but it should be monitored just in case.

Has anyone heard of this before?

Never heard of it, but good for you for getting to the eye doc!! Did they do a dilated eye exam? If not, just make sure you get to an opthamologist for a more comprehensive exam as soon as you're able to. While something is better than nothing, as a type 1, you really need to have your eyes thoroughly checked via a dilated exam. I've had some eye complications (nonproliferative retinopathy), but they have thankfully been caught in time and are no big issue now.

Yes, it was a dilated exam, I'm wearing sunglasses as I'm typing this lol

Happy for your good news.

Good advice from MyBustedPancreas. Diabetics should go to a retinologist annually & insurance covers it. Having a thorough retina exam by specialist is really important. Retinologists have the equipment & education to do more than an opthamologist.

My understanding is that it's a freckle (or birthmark) of sorts, on the iris (colored part of the eye). Not something to be worried about unless it's elevated. My ophthalmology friend says you can use a gonioscopy exam to tell.

OMG do they!!! When I go for an eye exam it usually takes me about 3 hours there chasing those little red lights in those machines the optomoligist has. Yep dilated too. What fun!!!!

yeah, mine took about 2 hours total. Idk what else they could have tested (noninvasively at least)
