bbq beef brisket killed vegetarianism for me
I love cows too! Well, and pigs. LOL
Yogirajj,
Protein takes longer to digest than carbs & fat is even slower still. Digestion of carbs begins in the mouth. So, protein & fat give more of a feeling of being full because they’re in our system longer.
gerri we got it covered i love cows!! I notice when i eat a meatless breakfest, oatmeal cereal or whatever won’t stick to me. Maybe i need more fiber? I tried eating oatmeal and eggs and toast and i was waaaayyy to full
I love cows also. And I’m with Robyn on pigs. Attached are photos of Scout at my house when I took care of him for a friend some years ago. Long story (don’t want to bore you) how Karen came to save this piglet. Have to say that taking care of Scout was one of the best weekends I had. He’s 3 weeks old in these pics. Photo with my cat so you can see his size then. He now weighs around 600 lbs, which isn’t that huge for a pig of his type.
omg how cute!!! I don’t know i love bacon… but i’m getting used to turkey bacon lol. Doesn’t the president pardon a turkey every year? lol
So freaking cute! His ears were sooo soft & he made adorable little grunt sounds when he slept. Was like having a puppy when he played. Super smart also. At 3 weeks old, he was eating 1.5 gallons of formula a day.
I’ve got more pics of Scout. We used one as our Christmas card one year:)
I eat turkey bacon, too. I can’t eat Scout.
Yes I know, but wouldn’t that also depend on how solid the food that your eating is? Or even how fast your eating? I know if I eat too fast I tend to get hungry again shortly after.
Ahhh Scout! Funny…my mom always wanted a pet pig. Now I see why. He is just adorable.
That’s how I became a vegetarian! For many years I had this rule that I wouldn’t eat anything “cute”…no bunnies, no bambi. But then I noticed how really cute pigs are, and then I lived somewhere nearby lots of cows and they tickled me too so that was it. Unless I wanted to live on a diet of snakes and rats I was done with animal food.
I also talk to plants and feel guilty about throwing away vegie leftovers but since I don’t want to starve to death I steer clear of anthropomorphizing my food. (Have always wanted an excuse to use that word in a sentence!)
Only problem with Dreamfields is that it digests very slowly and you can be normal after 2 hours but if you test your blood sugar 3, 4, 5 hours later it is very high. I can’t eat any higher amount of Dreamfield’s than I can of any other pasta because it will get me in the long run. (Also upset stomach sometimes)
Maybe how solid the food is effects how we feel since that would slow digestion some also. But when I was drinking protein shakes to gain weight with extra scoops of protein, I felt like I was exploding. I had to space the shakes or I’d feel uncomfortably full.
I think it depends more on what you’re eating than how fast. Dieters are told to eat slowly because it’s more our mouths that are hungry than our stomachs.
You could start a forum for these topics. Hypo unawareness is relatively easy to overcome. Insulin resistance is extremely difficult.
Ursela,
Sadly, dieticians are woefully behind the times with their food pyramid. As Lizmari said, I also experienced much improved lipids when I ate less carbs & more fat.
I just think it’s rather convenient that the weight epidemic started getting out of control at about the same time that the USDA started recommending everyone have a high carb diet… back in the 80s. Since then, they have ‘slightly’ modified their pyramid, but the damage is done…
Excellent point.
Have you ever seen what passes for school lunches? It’s shameful. Kids raised on fast food & super high carb foods. Grains are cheap.
Yeah, there’s a teacher who is anonymously consuming ALL the school lunches for a year, and doing a blog, so that she can relate to the world all her symptoms, and side effects of having such a regular diet. She’s trying to keep it hush hush, so they don’t catch her, and well… Cost her her job… But it takes one brave soul to do that! http://fedupwithschoollunch.blogspot.com/
That’s great. She’s a martyr to subject herself to that diet. When I was a kid, we lived close enough to school that I came home from lunch. Didn’t realize how lucky I was to have real food. My mother stuffed us with vegetables, thank goodness. I never tasted soda until I was a teenager & hated it.
It’s awful. A good friend is from Moscow. She’s appalled at what passes for food here. Her son, who was born in the US, goes to school with a three course homemade lunch & eats a real breakfast every day. He wants to eat the same crap as his friends & she’s waging a battle with him now that he’s older.
Cattle fed grain aren’t as healthy as those who eat grass. Chickens fed grain aren’t as healthy as those who eat seeds & insects. Dogs & cats fed processed grain based supermarket food now have the same debilitating diseases as humans. Lesson here?
Yep, grain is cheap. Actually, grain is expensive because we’re paying for it with our health. Food pyramid–bah humbug!
Dr. B’s philosophy, of course, is staying within a very narrow range at all times. Maintaining near perfect BG you’ll be aware of any drops or spikes, according to the good doctor. Aside from the dangers of high BG, the swings from high to low are also damaging.
If you’ve had high BG for a while, getting to normal can feel low. Is this what you mean by 85 feeling ok? How low do you get before you feel it?
I’ve felt great at 45 & awful at 60, so it’s variable. Allowing BG to be a bit hgher than normal helps re-set hypo awareness. Not super high, but often around 10 or so pts. higher than you’re used to for several weeks.
Hope this helps some.
