i tested on my right hand than on my left and there was a big difference is that normal?
First, I’ll ask what’s “a big difference” ? Then I’ll offer that it’s not at all uncommon for there to be different readings from one hand to another or from one finger to another for that matter.
if you are above 70 mg/dl your meter is only accurate to +/- 20% of reading. TWENTY PERCENT! so, you could get a 195 on one finger, then a 234 on another and that is totally normal. you could test 1 second later and get a 156 and your meter is still “considered” okay. mostly, though, the strips from the same vial should be pretty consistent.
sadly, our meters are not very accurate. if you tell the numbers you got, it would be easier to say of your meter is broken.
also, strips go bad in high humidity. if you have any of that test fluid from your meter you could always check if the strips are shot. sorry
You get a big difference because the new meters are loosy. plus or minus 20% which is a huge error. ten years ago I had a meter that was always 5% below the lab test very accurate and then there was little difference between figure to figure hand to hand
Another thought : did you wash both hands before the tests ?? Did you wipe the first drop of blood and use the second drop ? My nurse keeps reminding me to do this . first drop equals interstitional fluid : a possible different outcome …
