Is there a software program to help with the stacking issue, tracking IOB? Reminders?

Been a pumper since 1997. My pumper superiority allowed me to eat anything I wanted, and I am now about 40 lbs overweight. That is just a side note. It is not always better on the other side. Actually I love pumping, especially since I just switched to the omnipod.

My problem may be insurance issues. This newer policy has a $2500 diabetes cap. My family may not be able to afford my pumping habit. I am so scared to go back to MDI. I remember having trouble with MDI and stacking insulin - because I eat around the clock. I remember I was on 7x a day MDI when I switched over.

Anyway - is there a meter out there or software that help with the stacking issue?

Also, I need reminders to bolus when I eat. Any suggestions there?

Also what meters do you use and why? With the omnipod I have just switched back to the freestyle.

And final question - I hate logging. I guess I have been spoiled as I can download my pump info. I love the way the omnipod allows you to create so many BG tags, so I can tag all kinds of situations, which can then be downloaded for my CDE.

It is scary - I am not a very good math wiz.

Appreciate your help in this direction.

Hi Mom!
I am an MDI’er. Would love to go pump but as you know all to well the cost is exorbitant - I do not have health insurance. So to answer your question IMHO:
I have an Android phone and use OnTrack (free) to log my BG results. It is exportable and it gives you all sorts of statistical data, plus you can tag your results easily. There is another program I downloaded (it was not free - but only cost $4.99 USD) that will give you the correct bolus dose based on your ratios, current BG result and desired result.
As far as remembering to bolus when you eat - without the pump to take over that chore for you you will just have to remember before you insert anything of caloric consequence into your mouth you need to eat. Sounds like you will be bolusing every time you test - and that is how I “remember” test-inject. The OnTrack program also has the option to input your insulin - so that may help.
Good Luck trying to figure it all out. Hope that my input helped.
Peace+
Tim

What is the other program that cost 4.99 that gave you the correct bolus dose??
Thanks

I was wondering if you ever found out the other name of the program which gave correct bolus dosing? I'm going off omnipod for awhile and mdi and would appreciate it!

Sweet Fur: Have you tried ManageBGL? Started by a t1d for his own & daughter’s use, it has a great running log along with charts & suggestions to help you decide what to do next. Still in development, but well worth a try & currently free, though the developer deserves your financial support IMO. Good luck! Bob

This is obviously a bit late but have you ever heard of the Freestyle Insulinx meter? I’m not sure where you live of if its available in your area, but it tracks IOB, keeps a log of your readings which can be uploaded to a computer, and gives you recommendations for insulin doses based on you BG and the amount of carbs you are going to eat. It’s insulin pump technology without a pump. I love it because I hate the math aspect of diabetes and I don’t have to worry about any of that with this meter.

Hi!

What does "stacking insulin" mean?

Thanks.
M.

M: Perhaps you already received your answer to, “what is stacking insulin?” In case you have not, it just means that you are taking one or more additional boluses of insulin while you still have some insulin yet to enter your bloodstream from a prior injection. Even fast-acting insulins are not completely absorbed all that fast. They may continue to impact glucose levels several hours post-injection, creating risk of hypoglycemia as additional shots/boluses complicate your calculation of the amount of insulin you may need for each new carb intake. Stacking is one of those (sometimes necessary) behaviors that can make the life of a T1d so exciting/frustrating.
