OK BSC, this is about the best post I have seen this month.
I literally peed my pants laughing. I can’t imagine how much sodium a single vegetable cube would overdue one’s target intake for the day. I imagine that one soup, a whole cup and half would do it for the day, and what else do you get, but a cup and a half of water with a sloppy egg.
I guess that since we have been pumping with Novo Rapid insulin alone, versus Novo Rapid together with Levemir a hugely expensive Novo Nordisk insulin for MDI that we won’t have to worry about Novo Nordisk enlightening us with their book, so we won’t need to look at who we might share it with.
How did you get on their A LIST? Just kidding, but I am sure that I thought that you are not using insulin at all, yet while we were using Levemir for about a full year pre-pump and that stuff is major league, costly. Mind you in Canada we can purchase insulin off RX, so that must be it… we are not in their files, thank God!!!
You got it, bsc. Replace sugar with artificial sweetener & butter with margarine (gag). Never understood why anyone would spend money on these cookbooks that simply replace sugar. Oh, and a serving is 1/32 of the recipe.
I have a brisket recipe that calls for coating the meat with cocoa powder & coffee before searing. It’s killer. Does this qualify as a meat dessert:)
It is good to know that someone gets a laugh out of my life’s adventures. I know exactly why Novo Nordisk has me on their A List. It is called Victoza. And the price is $545/month. That makes Levemir, at about $100/vial seem like a steal.
It just seems a little like going to a carnival, spending $50 bucks on a sideshow game and coming home with a cheap chinese stuff animal. I just feel a little “used.” OMG, I hope the stuffed animal doesn’t have any melamine in it.
I have seen some nasty posts between T2 and T1 on tu and I have explained to my son, that T1, while the options are insulin or die, does not mean that the T1 has a harder road than any T2 or the T1.5’s, or as the endo’s are learning other T’s soon to be named, that don’t fit into the current categories. I don’t remember how much we were paying for Levimir, but I think it was about $180 for 5 pen fills. I now see why you are on the A list at Novo Nordisk and that totally sucks! One would think that they could have made half an effort to give you a more useful book. How appetizing is a cup and a half of salt water with a broken egg?
My apologies BSC and PS, I love your posts. You always give us info to think, and review.
I got that same book in the mail for free from them bsc. I do not use it to cook from, however I do use it for a game that my family and freinds play. I would not give this book to another diabetic, no way no how.
I have gotten a free USB meter and a few other meters also. If it is a good freebie that I don’t need I would pass it on but if it is any thing like that book I would not pass it on.
Well, in all truth, that is the price of the Victoza, I only pay about $190/month out of pocket, but I appreciate any sympathy I can get. And I agree with you, all this T1/T2 stuff is silly. We all have to deal with a difficult and chronic condition and it is more important that we stick together for support.
Missy! So good to see you back. I’m glad you were able to drop by and share your “gift.” Actually, I’ve gotten a bunch of free meters and quite a bit of assorted doodads, but mostly cheap stuff, under $10. I certainly appreciate a little sample of diabetic foot cream, or some glucose tabs, but I would really like some “good” stuff.
Anyway, I am intrigued by your suggestion that the book is used “for a game that my family and friends play.” I would like to ask you about this, but I don’t want to press you, especially if it involves something disgusting.
Yes, don’t leave us hanging, what could the game possibly be? You can’t throw something out there like that and not expect us to be intrigued (and nosey), lol!
Nope, the ingredients in the broth are: Filtered water, organic onions, organic carrots, organic celery, organic tomatoes, sea salt, organic spices, safflower oil and or sunflower oil, organic garlic. So the salt is the 6th ingredient rather than the first or second like in the cubes. Honestly, it is better! The brand is Imagine and the one I quoted is “organic vegetable broth” which says “fat free and no added msg”. If you want to believe labelling that is! They also have other types like Portobello mushroom, brocolli, etc, etc. I go to a special market but you probably can find at least the vegie broth one in most markets. It comes in a 32 oz box.
I’ve had T1 D 22 years , and have found that the free cook books usually aren’t worth my time. There is a website called dlife that has some great recipes. It even has a section to look for alternative ingredients, like if you want to know a lower carb option to use in place of say rice or a certain type of veggie. Lists carbs and serving as well.It has some other great articles and tips too.
Yeah, I’ve seen that type of veg. bouillon in organic sections of regular supermarkets. usually only vegetable flavor though.
I’ve also made my own vegetable bouillion from saving scraps/peels from vegetables and boiling them in water and then straining it out… so the only salt is whatever I put in.
I get the Edwards & Sons brand. 0 carbs but sodium is 940mg (not an issue for me). I have the Garden Veggie one: Sea Salt, Organic Palm Oil, Yeast Extract, Onion, Organic Carrt, Lovage, Tumeric, Organic Celery, Maltodextrin, Parsley and Organic Mace Spice.
I have used it for soup bases. They also have a Faux Chicken, Faux Beef and I believe a low sodium veggie one.
