Ketone test strip expiration

I try to keep Ketone test strips amongst my diabetes supplies but I rarely use them and they’re not cheap. Invariably, when I’m concerned in the middle of the night and go to my supplies the strips are well past their expiration date.
Does anyone know how seriously to take that expiration date? I know that a lot of medications (including insulin) are good long after their expiration dates, but I’m not sure if there’s something inherently more perishable about the reagents in a ketone test strip. The only way I can think to check is to deliberately get ketones and I’m not doing that. (The only time I’ve ever tested positive for ketones was at diagnosis more than 30 years ago.)

The internet says they expire 30-90 days after opening. I’ve kept them around a lot longer because I so rarely use them.
