Can a child with diabetes go to a school with no or only a part time nurse? I am being told that in WA State the school must have a full time nurse for the student to attend. That sounds fishy or discriminatory to me. I think this is a mistake but am confused. If anyone is up on this topic please help out. I am the counselor at the school and want to help this family and school out. Thanks for anything you can pass on.

No public school can ever refuse to admit a child with type 1 because there’s no nurse present on campus. A school’s inability to afford a nurse on campus is not a valid defense. Federal law - chiefly Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act - prohibits such discrimination.

I was wondering how Section 504 applies to Public Colleges and Universities? Do you know Lisa?
