Learning From Each Other, Finding Common Ground

Good points Manny I hope that we’re all here to help each other!

I love your post Manny and hope that everyone will be willing to help each other.

Some people are diabetic, and some of us are type 1’s and others are type 2’s, some of these types both share dark skin, some others share light. Some of both types have blue eyes, others may have brown. Some of us are mothers, and fathers, or may be a little child, some rich, some poor, some Christian, Muslim or Atheists. Some of both types are gay others are straight. Some teach us others preach to us. …Distinction as related to diabetes has it’s place in treatment only, distinction beyond this is predjudice. We share more than we differ, in the end we are all human.
“Prejudice cannot see the things that are because it is always looking for things that aren’t”

I really didn’t need to say this, Manny’s got it right. Said it anyways for the hell of it.

While I so agree with this… sigh I think we may ultimately need two websites for the groups, separate from each other… I love what I learn from Type 1’s, but… I am tired of being treated with outright disrespect, contempt, and disgust, as if I had Leprosy because I got the “wrong kind” of Diabetes… I mean, where we can’t even comment, or have some humor, without people getting disgusted at us, and deleting entire threads so that we’re not there… It just makes me want to scream. I didn’t come here so that some jerk would make me feel ashamed of myself for having Type 2, and assuming that I “gave this to myself.” sigh I want the support, but I DON’T want the grief… So the reality is that… I am very angry, and unhappy because of those people, and I find myself hating Type 1’s and I don’t want to… And my only solution to that is… Never coming back here anymore. Or seldom coming by, once a month, or something. It’s just not worth it.

To Sarah Keech: Lots of Type 2’s have pumps as well – when you’re on insulin, why shouldn’t you have a pump?
To Manny, thanks for starting this thread – we ARE all in it together, and we all should learn as much as we can about ALL types of diabetes, just because we never know just how we can educate someone.

Natalie, Thanks for telling me. I just found that out a few days ago because my friend has a type 2 client who has one. Also the RN at Animas just helped me out a lot with many of the problems I have with the pump so if you are having site issues I recommend making an appointment with the RN from the pump company and your diabetic care coordinater so you can really brainstorm everything that might be going wrong. Still difficult to wear with a dress though. I just purchased some nude colored underwear shaped like biker shorts and plan to sew a pocket on them for my pump. This worked with cutoff legggings but I the legging’s color is too bright to hide under many fabrics. I like how helpful and knowledgeable people like you on this website are. After having type 1 for 34 years, I still keep learning and/or refreshing what I forgot about this disease.
