I took it for years, and then had a horrific bout with mouth and tongue swelling which was blamed on the lisinopril. It has a history of causing this--I learned in the ER. I switched another low dose ace inhibitor and am fine.
I truly believe that kidney protection is important. After 50 years of D, 25 on ace inhibitor, and no kidney problems. Seems to work so far.
oh, sorry fhs, do you take lisinopril too? What is DME? I guess the lower a1c helped you, that is good I don't have retinopathy or anything major going on it seems but my vision is still blurry.. I just made an appointment with someone else who will photograph things and do a baseline pic of what is going on. So hard to tell for sure with your eyes what is going on when there are many factors involved, I had dry eye too before all of this but it didn't affect my vision much and I was anal about caring for it. 2 retinologists said I have a tiny shadow of cataract but they didn't seem to think it was anything to worry about. wonder if that is causing my blurry vision or if it is bg fluctuations. I'm worried there was some damage from my dka and coming down to normal bg.
Hi, I have been taking lisinopril for more than 15 years to protect my kidneys as my endocrinologist originally found a trace of protein in my urine. I have never had an issue with high blood pressure and I do not show any more traces of protein at all. I am only taking 5mg of the drug and my blood pressure has never gotten too low. I hope this helps you out. Feel free to contact me anytime.
I take 10 mg of Lisinopril for kidney protection, and have for years. I didn't have a BP problem when I started on the Lisinopril, and was concerned it would push me too low, but that hasn't been the case. So far, no kidney problems whatsoever, but I have kept my A1c at a reasonable level all these years.
I have been taking lisinopril for hypertension for at least 10 years. It has never caused any unwanted side effects, in contrast to say Lipitor. I have never shown any microalbumin so the kidneys are still fine my dose is 40 mgs of lisinopril with 25 mgs of hydrochlorothiazide.
When diagnosed my Doc put me on low dose (2mg) of Lisinopril. He said it was for kidney protection. It was raised a bit after the first year because of protein still showing up a bit in my urine. I've been on (5mg) now for 3 years. And not issues at all.
