Thank you Belila. Carb counting is the most important thing we can do as diabetics and if we use insulin is almost mandatory for success.
Thanks a lot Stemwinder, actually we need some movement in the group as it is standstill for a while _ we need to open more discussions>>thanks for replying
I kind of took the Glycemic Index approach in my new diet and it has helped considerable. My previous diet was all carbs (tastykakes, breads, lots of Pepsi & sugary iced tea)and I was taking 70-90 units of novolog daily to compensate. Since I started eating lower carb/lower GI, I've cut down to 20 units or less daily, very few spikes (pizza is a killer to me), and I'm losing weight daily. Right now this is working really well for me.
I cut my carbohydrates down from about 180 a day to 80 a day. This resulted in 35 pounds weight loss in 8 months, which I have maintained for more than 5 years.
Eating fewer grams of carbohydrate results in a smaller glucose spike at mealtime. The combination of limited carbs, metformin, and an insulin pump has resulted in 25 A1c's in a row in the low 5's, which is in the middle of the non-diabetic range. Currently 5.2.

Thats awesome! So happy for you!
great, Lloyyd, 5.2 A1C....I am still at about 130 to 150 a day and working to go down under 100, but I was above 250 before where my A1c was always above 7.5 , when I reduced to 130 carbs per day now my A1C is 6.3
My experience is near the same. I cut my carb intake to about 100 a day. That and a good daily walk has helped me to loose 40 pounds more or less.
That's a nice improvement! What is your goal?
-Lloyd
My goal 5.5
My holiday eating lasted until about April. Since then I have been doing much better, and here lately even better. I do not count carbs, but I eat essentially the same thing for breakfast (except for Sunday) every day as well as lunch. Sometimes supper is meat and a salad. For some reason I'm just not having problems right now. I told someone yesterday that I was just waiting for the other shoe to drop. He told me just to enjoy it right now. Words of wisdom.
