Caremark sent me a message at 6 pm on the 26th stating that it had been shipped and provided an express mail tracking number.
Usps didn’t acknowledge that they had received the package until 6:30 pm on the 27th – 24.5 hours later---- so when it actually left the refrigerator at the Caremark hub is a big question mark to me.
I received a text message from USPS saying it was available for pickup at the post office today, on the 28th. 5 minutes later I received another USPS text message saying that the delivery date had been revised to tomorrow. I went to my local post office box (a satellite from the main post office here) they said they don’t get their packages until 10 am from the main office----
So I drove 20 miles into town to the real post office and had them dig up my package. I opened it as soon as I got home. Insulin boxes were 55F. Ice packs were 52F. I think this is fine. But I am concerned what it would have been like in the summer and / or if I would have had to wait until next day to pickup, which would have been the case if I had just let them come to me.
All this is good food for thought, but I suppose I have no good reason to assume that it actually gets to the local pharmacy any faster or cooler than this.
Good to hear everything arrived well within temperature range.
Was your insulin packed in a styrofoam or similar insulated material?
I live in Florida, and haven’t had any problems with the temperature even when the box containing the insulin was left on my front doorstep in the summer.
Yes it was packed in a thick styrofoam box packed full of gel ice packs. It’s a lot shorter ride to Florida than to my house.
I expect it’ll be fine even in the summer… It was well packed-- will just take me a bit of time to get comfortable with the whole arrangement and the additional layers that living in rural Alaska adds. I wonder if they’d have sent it fedex or ups overnight if not going to a PO box… It would have been outrageously expensive to do so to AK (maybe not with commercial accounts?) but would likely be faster— and Usps doesn’t do residential delivery in much of AK including here
