Medicare and test strips

I'm confused about this. Liberty became Arriva and I found out a bit late that the meters they were giving away were not what I wanted. I really wanted to continue using my Accu Check Aviva meter, but didn't hear anything until after I had requested a new meter from Freestyle. Someone at Freestyle told me I could get their test strips at Publix. After talking to another rep from Freestyle, I was told Medicare may not pay for these strips if I got them there. Great. I'm back to try to get my Accu check test strips from CVS.

It seems that Liberty used to ask for a month's record of testing results. I have asked my doctor to send CVS a prescription based on testing 2-3 times a day, but I'm not sure this is the way I should go about doing this. I've already paid $85 out of pocket to Walgreen's Drug for 50 strips and I'm running low.

What is the correct procedure? I'm already paying over $400/mo on health insurance.

Replying to my own post. Finally got doc to prescribe Accu check test strips with local pharmacy. No control came with the strips. Didn't know the doc had to prescribe that as well. Also managed to lose my lancer!!!!! New ones have a drum that contain 6 needles and ARE NOT REUSABLE. More money down the drain. I remember a time when diabetics sterilized their own needles. I could do that now if I could buy syringes that would take them. Tired of paying out money for conveniences I don't need.
