Medicare Rule about Dr Appt and ability to get prescriptions?

I think Medicare has a rule where you can’t get diabetes supplies if you haven’t seen a provider in a certain timeframe. Do you know what the rule is? Is it 4 months? Is it longer?

I believe it is 90 days for insulin and pump supplies and 180 days for sensors.

If you are a pumper (use a pump), medicare requires a visit and updated charts every 3 months. If you are MDI (Multiple Daily Injections), then every 6 months. If you go over these timeframes, the suppliers will not send you your supplies until you have had your required visit and the charts are available. In other words, if you are MDI and wait 6 1/2 months but run out of supplies at 6 months Plus one day, then your provider will not send your supplies until you have had your visit at 6 1/2 months plus the time for the doctor to make the charts available.

The rule is 6 months for DME (Dexcom sensors).

Everyone, thank you for your responses. I was mostly concerned about Dexcom sensors. I can handle 6 months.

Medicare Advantage plans may or may not specify their requirements in their plan documents and the requirements can be different from Medicare Part B. If you have Medicare Part B here’s the rules for CGMs.
