I have Medtronic sensor and transmitter and after 3 days I get an end sensor alarm. I understnd there is a way to stretch my sensors use for more days. I don’t know how to accomplish this through my pump. Can anyone give step by step instuctions in bypassing the 3 day roadblock? Thank-you
Just hit “sensor”, “sensor start” and “new sensor”. You’ll be asked to provide a new BG reading within 5 minutes, and you are off to the races. I’m generally good for another full three days after that.
And after that one, you can do it again, but this time go into the menu and tell it to find a lost sensor right after you tell it you put in a new one. You can keep going until you simply are unable to get good readings or a calibration out of it.
what I do after approx. 8 days of wearing the sensor , after having done what Jonathan and oneless have suggested I disconnect transmitter and place it back on the charger , till flashing lights are off, connect and tell the pump to start a new sensor …probably have to wait the 3 hour callibration time …a few more good days are usually the pay -off
well my response appears to be just talk and wishfull thinking today about getting another 3 day use …I did a finger poke reason( do not feel low ) and result : 6.1 and sensor shows 3.3 …NOT ready to give in and up yet…
Hi Nel, did you check to see what your Sensor ISIG value was on the pump (press ESC 4 times with the MM 522 to get that value)? I’ve found in the few times I’ve disconnected the sensor from the Minilink transmitter (on 7th day when you’re forced to) it’s never really worked well for me.
I’ve gotten into a routine of inserting a new sensor on day #6 (while the old one’s still in/working and connected to the transmitter), and on the morning of day #7 (usually after I finish working out) pull the old sensor, recharge the Minilink, and connect it to the new sensor I inserted the night before. This routine works like a champ for me good luck!
Type1steve…yes the ISIG value was very questionable …and I have to omit …4 hours later presently …I cannot recall the exact value …I did disconnect eventually . I like your suggestion about your routine , on the other hand I don’t mind a couple of days per month NO sensor .I am very fortunate, that our extended health benifit plan pays for 4 sensors monthly …do the arithmetic and I could almost wear a sensor daily !!
Thanks for sharing …
I’m also very lucky on the insurance side (so far, I’m still gainfully employed!) which is the reason I don’t push the use of sensors beyond 6 days, with change over on the 7th. They even pay for 1 sensor for every 3 day use, but I like to extend them so (1) I have an ample supply on hand in the event I lose my job/benefits…or (2) have a bad sensor insertion which does still occationally happen for me on a rare basis these day!
I did what you suggested and everything went fine. If I can get six days out of each sensor , I’ll be happy and which will keep me in the parameters of my insurance coverage. Thanks again for your help.
