I’m intending on getting an insulin pump and found cheap ones on medwow, anyone know if they’re scammers or not? Please reply ASAP
Hi Mariam. I don't know anything about medwow, but I would be very cautious about buying an insulin pump online. A couple things I would take into account is that there is no warranty and no customer service if anything goes wrong, and things do go wrong now and then even with new pumps. Secondly do remember that you need to buy supplies for your pump on a regular basis, and without insurance these can be quite expensive. So if you are considering buying your pump online because of limited funds do check out what you will need to pay ongoing.
If you decided you wanted to go ahead, I would do some research, both on the site and the people who sell things there. Are they reputable? Are their customer ratings (like on Amazon) so you can see evaluation of the seller if not of that particular pump? What information will they give you, such as how old the pump is, if there are any problems with it. ("why are you selling it?" is always a good question). Are there any guarantees if it is faulty?
Personally depending on how cheap these actually are, I would be very hesitant. Are there other options for you to get say a refurbished pump from a more reputable or known source? Have you spoken to various pump companies to see if they have subsidy or lower cost options? I would be more inclined to go in that direction. Even buying a pump from someone you know (or someone your doctor knows) who is decided to upgrade, would be more of a known quantity. I'm not trying to discourage you, just that I would have definite concerns.
I agree with Zoe. When you need to call the pump customer service, and you will, for various reasons, they will ask for the serial number of the pump on the back of it. You must be the registered user.
yes, and the supplies are very expensive if you don't have insurance to pay for at least part. I don't know how that works where you live. Most insurances here pay for part of the cost of the pump and the supplies. have you perhaps discussed your options with your doctor or medical team?
I don’t have problems with the ongoing cost although they aren’t covered by insurance , it’s the initial cost, but you guys opened my eyes to a lot of things, thanks
