Meter accuracy and testing - I'm stumped

I am new to the pump and have been using Dexcom for a few years.

When I calibrate my Dexcom, my numbers on whatever meter I use differs drastically from my Omnipod meter.

As you can see in the image:

My Dexcom says I am 90

My Accucheck says I am 80

And my omni pod says I am 75

What do you all think is more accurate?

Should I split the difference?

I only use the Dexcom for trending but the differences between Omnipod and my other meters I have is preeeeeety big.

Average the values and move on. The devices are supposed to be accurate within 20%. I see a difference when I check my right hand and left hand on the same device. I could spend countless hours trying to figure it out or I could accept it and go on with my life. You can drown in the numbers and variances. If one device is consistently off then take some time to investigate it. If they are all fairly close average them out and carry on

It is a known issue that the OmniPod meter reads low by about 20%. You can find multiple discussions about this here on Tu. There is an easy fix. You can use a code other than 16 to compensate for the low bias. I ended up using code 18.

I did that and it works far better. What does that do exactly? The code change? There are not many forums or answers online about it.

@Molly_S: Type ‘A1C surprise’ into the search box or use A1C surprise. Let me know if you have more questions.

I say its “Hammer Time” for that lil One Touch… Buh Bye lil friend!

Jeez Louis! That’s nuts!

We make an error when we equate our meter with the aboslute truth. I offer that perhaps you might wish to check the same finger on different hands with the same meters close time together. What I think you will find is that the sticks will vary by hand. The thing is our meters are close approximations, they are not the absolute. If you have a moment look at the published error rates in the meter literature. chances are you will find that your meter will be accurate at ±20%. If your blood sugar is 100 that means it could be 80 to 120. Now to be fair that seldom happens. but we have to understand that these numbers are not absolute, so different blood sugar devices will show different numbers.

Now the Dexcom is not a blood sugar device. It measures interstitial fluid which is influenced by blood sugar. Yes, sometimes the number is right on. But it also is not an absolute.
