Minimed vs.ping , or too early to pump!?

good morning

im diabetec for nearly one month and half maybe!

i am on novopen

the first time i knew about the pump was when my sister told about her friend whos pumping

but i heard it "BUMBING !,until now, every time it occurs to my mind(the pump)
i imagine it as a strong machine that BUMBS inulin to people!

after i done some research on google(which led me hear) i abslutely cant take it out
of my mind,i even downloaded user manual for five differint pumps to see how its work!

okay,to the main discussion" on the previus appointment i told my doctor

she agreed after seeing my readings(wihch are always low-between 30 and 70 in the morning-by the way but no passing out until now fortunatly)
and asked me if im okay with the idea of pumping

and gived me an appointment after a month so we could be more sure

now, what i want to know is;isnt it a bit of early to pump now?

and my major concern is"
which pump?

i have an crazily good insurance(thanks dad)which im sure that it covers the pump
but the hospital that i attend is good too,too good to be true maybe
thay said they would give me a pump if the doctor agrees-who im sure he will-
the problem is that they only give minimed pumps
you may think it is good

but the main problem is that i DISLIKE minimed(im not saying that its not good minmid users!,but i dont like it, its simple , i just didnt like it features!) i liked PING sooo much

i said its fine i would make my insurance give me one,but the problem that my doctor said i cant
take medications from two diffrent sources,in other way:STIK WITH OUR MINIMED!

i have made my choice before going to the appointment that i would have ping
it was alove from the first sight~!

so please

I have had two minimed pumps and I love them. Easy to use, work well and hold up well. To each their own, however.

Rick

Hi,

When I started on the pump about a year ago, after 10.5 years of injections, my doctor/clinic were pushing the minimed. Basically, minimed has the local market. When I reviewed that pump, and three others, I found myself drawn to the CozMore. It had the features I wanted. So I would up going with that. I was the first CozMore pumper in my town of 50,000 people. When I went in to get my training from my diabetes educator, she got training at the same time from a CozMore rep!

So go with your gut. If you’ve got good insurance, then you should be able to get whichever pump you want.

Good luck, Mike

S@ya how are you H1ab (Glicosilated Glucose) ? are you below 6 - 6.3 % ? If you are upper that that get better control of your glucose is mandatory. You can use multiple tools (diet, excercise, motivation ) and multiple shots or pumping.

Love at the first sight its OK but all the pumps do the same. The newest one pumps are more “smart” and precise for administer insulin in very very low amounts ( thats nice for control your basal rates) but is not necesary for the mayor number of diabetics.

So living with a pump requires more monitoring that living with shoots at the first times and also understand and konw how to live with a cathether 24 hours a day attached to your boddy.

Think and imagine what is more importand for you. As a personal decision I decided tu use a pump after 34 years in multiple shoots, and the pump give me a precise control for my insulino therephy ( basal rates and boluses ) but my glicosilated rages after 6 months steel equal or just a couple of points lower not too much ( 6,0 / 6,2 )

So take advantage of the tools you can use thrugt insurance to better control your diabetes, but remember that the control always would be on you.

I use minimed 722 and its Ok, see if you can get a “test drive” before select the pump you love feeling its more precise that love at first sight… I hope and goog look !!!

I agree with Hector…reading about and actually wearing using a pump are two different things!!! Seriously, see if you can test drive it…you wouldn’t buy a car w/o test driving…it’s not attached to your body 24/7!!! My doctor, an endo, was hawking the minimed…I decided on the OmniPod and love it!!! My concern had been the tubing…I have a Bichon who is always all over me…loves her mommie. You have to wear it, use it and be comfortable with it. Make the decision YOURS…not theirs. Besides…you’ll probably be “stuck” with your decision for 4 yrs.

I went through the same procedure last fall, downloading user manuals and researching each pump available, and I decided on the ping in the end. It is very nicely built, comes in many colors, works fine, and the remote control feature is probably the best part, especially when I get dressed up to go out for dinner and can remotely deliver insulin in a discreet fashion with my pump neatly tucked away, and noone even notices. I used to excuse myself to the bathroom for injections and testing. And its waterproof feature makes living with it very easy; you can bathe and shower with it on.
Also, Animas’ customer service is excellent.
My A1C had gone down from 7.3 to 6.4 in 4 months, and my control has never been better. I suggest meeting with their reps to see if you can demo their pumps, and if you are still thinking about not pumping, I would say dont wait! I was on MDI (injections) for over 20 years and this is without a doubt the better way to manage and treat diabetes. Good Luck!

Not sure if it’s too early. Your doctor will know. I love my Ping! But then it is the only pump i have ever had.

two!!
what do you do with them!!?
one on the right and on the lift?!!
i am sure that all pumps are good and fine but its not that i HATE it,its only amatter of accepting
thanks for your concerns

hhhhhhh
you with your educator?!
for me the PING really have the features i want’
but im stillconfused
sadly’'as you said the minimed has the local market, wich means its maybe one of the few pumps available
in my area
but my insurance mabe aproblem too!

thanks alot!!
im really gratefull
i imagined what would be my NEXT pump!
ihave all redy studied-like the word-the pump from all sides
and decided
i want thje ping
and thanks again for your information!

okay!
it is getting alittle serious and scary!
im kidding
im a-book- aholic
i love reading
and anything i find about apump it wouldnt pass my eyes w/o me reading it
i agree that reading and actually trying are two differnt things but i m redy
the omni pod cough my eyes for a while but not that much
thanks for your advice and warning-i need them to know that the pump isnt a toy!!-
thanks alot

thanks alot
at least!someone like me

i realy like the thatfeature too-waterproof-since i spend 2 hours showering
and i am a swimmer
so its really important for me
about being redy
iam toooootally rady, the problem is’’ i have never heard about someone puming after a month of being diagnosed

thanks again-i needed to hear something from a ping user!

hi

the doctor didnt disagree at all,but she was alitle confused because usually people spend years with shots

i really love the ping too ,and its the pump i reeeealllly like
so,i am reall between two fires!

thank you for your opinion it really helps!

okay

here is the sad thing""idont think that ping is avalable in my area

and

I ASKED THE OTHER DOC. ABOUT THE INSURANSE
GUESS WHAT? NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!
BUT HES NOT SURE SO THER IS STILL ACHANCE

thank you all for all of your supportive replies:)

OH NOOOOOOO…that’s why I went in pre-approved for the pump. I had it narrowed it down to the ping and the OmniPod…I loved the One Touch Ultra Smart meter and hated giving it up. If I didn’t have my doggie it would have been a more difficult decision. She’s all over me!!! Hopefully everything will work out. What the heck…are there insulin pump lobbyists???

thank god!!!
i asked the insurance and they agreed!!
they just need a paper from the doctor heeeheeeeheee:D

if its available i would try one before really having it

i liked the meter too!
thanks,
and the pumps are really annoying sometimes when you think about it!!

woot!

My son is a personal trainer out in Cali…has a person with diabetes who he’s training…this person uses an insulin pump. He has to disconnect his pump when he uses a weighted vest…then reconnects after the workout. Now…if he were using the OmniPod…he wouldn’t be able to do that. No such thing as the PERFECT pump…so far. Now…if they had a way of being able to tuck the tubing behind the pod…perhaps, so that you could slide the pod onto the infusion set…ta da…perhaps, the perfect pump.

There’s nothing so empowering as being successful in taking charge of your own destiny! Congratulations!!!
