Miracle rice

Has anyone tried this? Low-carb rice. I’ve never tried it, but it was posted in a food allergy group I frequent.

Yeah I eat it all the time. I prefer the rice to the noodles. No carbs. I like it, but it really doesn’t taste like rice. If someone wants to try it and can’t find it locally you can get it on Amazon. I have Prime so the shipping is not an issue, but if you pay regular shipping it can be rather pricy.

I have not tried the rice but I eat the noodles all the time. The noodles are a mediocre substitute for pasta but are really good in asian dishes and soup.

Thanks! I’m trying to lower my carbs, so I may give it a try.

I read somewhere that it is best to put them in with whatever you are serving them with so they can absorb some flavor. Also they need to be thoroughly rinsed, I use a colander, before using. They have a fishy smell right out of the package, but it completely disappears with a thorough rinse Hope you like them it’s nice having something which adds 0 carbs even if they are an imperfect substitute for rice and noodles.

I also rinse the noodles. A quick rinse under cold water seems to render them odorless and flavorless. And they do take on the flavor of whatever they are cooked in.

Ugh. I tried all the various shiritaki products I could find, using a variety of sauces and soups, but the texture was just too gross for me. The no calorie thing made them attractive for the 5:2 fasting diet I eat, but I finally concluded that they didn’t satisfy my need for food.

I much prefer the cauliflower fauxtato and rice versions, though they can be expensive.

And sometimes a small portion of high quality real brown rice is worth the carbs. Trader Joe’s frozen organic brown rice in particular.

I missed rice a lot when I went low-carb—used to eat mounds of it after a particularly long rehearsal day. So, for me, eat was easier to just not have any at all. But one night, on a whim, I tried a couple Tbsps of my husband’s purple Thai rice. Not only didn’t I get a bad spike, but that little bit of this dense, rich rice was satisfying. I still enjoy the lightly sautéed cabbage and onion mix my husband makes as a conveyer belt for stir-fries, but enjoy a dollop of the purple rice on the side…

Judith_in_Portland,

Is that purple Thai rice like the black “forbidden rice?” I use an ounce of that in my favorite winter beef soup and love the flavor it gives it.
