I have discovered something that is working for me and thought I would share it with all of you. I used to have high readings in the morning (dawn phenomenon?). One evening, at bedtime, I ate an oatmeal bar. The next morning when I took my reading, it was 115. THAT HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. I thought it was just a lark, so that night I did not have my oatmeal bar and the next morning my reading was 157. So that night I had my oatmeal bar and low and behold, 96. I don,t know if all oatmeal bars will work. I have only used the ones from Costco. Anyway, that’s my big discovery. Hope it can help you.
yay fiber! I remember when I first got my pump, I had a huge bowl of oatmeal and did a huge (23 unit) bolus for it, as directed by the carb calculations for the oatmeal… and then I had a hypoglycemic response for 5 hours after that! I forgot to account for the ASTRONOMICAL fiber load in oatmeal, which essentially negates carbs when dealing with glucose calculations.
I also used to have the dawn phenomenon, but with the pump I am able to keep a more finely-tuned basal rate and have had less trouble in the morning (well, night, since I work overnight shifts).
I must be weird. When I eat oatmeal it sends my bg up.
