Motorcycle Blog: How much does diabetes “limit” you? “Define” you?

Have fun. I love my motorcycle. I got back into riding a few years ago. The first accessory I added was a phone mount. I use the Libre sensor and I needed to have my phone handy to turn off alarms and easily check my levels. I also bought a modular helmet so that I didn’t have to take my helmet off to treat a low. You can tell where my priorities are!

Thanks for the considerations, everyone!

I had enough to write about in the blog, not to bring up the potential addition of having diabetes as a complicating factor. Of course, while riding, I’d stop and check my glucose and trends. Naturally, I had to bring along all the additional pump and CGM supplies, insulin, backup plan, etc.

But since it didn’t directly impact the journey beyond those considerations, there never seemed the “right” time to introduce it.

Maybe next trip.

When I finished college, before starting new job, I signed for a 6 week bus tour of Europe. This was in 1982, and East Germany was behind the wall. It was a great trip, and glad I did it. We stayed at cheap hotels and each stop we could tour or explore on our own/or in small groups.

I brought syringes, Lente insulin and candy (and a camera). I might have brought test tape, but likely not!!

When I returned and started job in Texas, small town with no Endo. But primary md suggested to start using Regular for meals. At this time I had T1D for 17 years.

I don’t hide anything ever, If I am with someone I give the once over on glucagon and that’s it. I have never had anyone confront me even before the pump.
